We're Seeking a Psychologist Passionate About Assessment

Are you a psychologist who enjoys understanding how young people think, learn and experience the world?

Future Minds Psychology is growing our assessment team and is seeking a psychologist with a particular interest in cognitive, learning and neurodevelopmental assessment of children, adolescents and young adults.

This is an assessment-focused subcontractor position with an established referral stream. It would particularly suit an Educational & Developmental Psychologist, Clinical Psychologist or Clinical Neuropsychologist, either endorsed or undertaking an endorsement pathway, who is looking to develop or expand their assessment practice.

Training and experience in the ADOS-2 would be highly regarded.

Based in Box Hill South, we have more than 15 years' experience providing psychological services to young people and families in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, becoming Future Minds Psychology in 2024.

Assessment is an important and growing part of our practice. We regularly receive referrals from families, schools, GPs, paediatricians and allied health professionals seeking clarification of a young person's cognitive, learning and neurodevelopmental profile.

The Role

You will primarily undertake assessments involving:

• Cognitive and intellectual functioning

• Learning and academic achievement

• Specific Learning Disorder

• ADHD and executive functioning

• Autism Spectrum Disorder

• Complex neurodevelopmental presentations involving overlapping cognitive, learning, attentional, behavioural and social-communication concerns

Depending on your experience and areas of interest, your assessment work may include:

• Clinical, developmental and diagnostic interviews

• Cognitive assessment using measures such as the WISC-V, WPPSI and WAIS

• Academic assessment using the WIAT

• ADHD diagnostic assessment and standardised questionnaires

• Assessment of executive functioning, behaviour and emotional functioning

• Autism assessment, including the ADOS-2 where appropriately trained

• Adaptive functioning assessment

• Review of developmental, educational and previous clinical information

• Consultation with parents, teachers, schools and other professionals

• Integration and interpretation of assessment findings

• Preparation of comprehensive psychological reports

• Feedback sessions with young people and families

We are particularly interested in psychologists who can integrate assessment findings into a coherent clinical formulation, rather than simply reporting test scores.

The position provides the flexibility and autonomy of private practice while removing much of the burden of independently generating referrals and coordinating assessments.

About You

Essential

• Full AHPRA registration as a psychologist

• Completion of a Masters or Doctoral-level psychology qualification

• Endorsement, or current progression towards endorsement, in Educational & Developmental Psychology, Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology

• Experience working with children and/or adolescents

• Sound psychological assessment, interpretation and clinical formulation skills

• Strong written communication and report-writing skills

• Ability to integrate information from multiple sources and consider differential diagnoses

• Current Working with Children Check

• Professional indemnity insurance

• Organised, thoughtful and able to work both independently and collaboratively

Highly Desirable

• ADOS-2 training and experience

• Experience undertaking Autism diagnostic assessments

• Experience undertaking ADHD diagnostic assessments

• Experience assessing Specific Learning Disorder

• Experience with cognitive and academic measures including the WISC-V, WPPSI, WAIS and WIAT

• Experience with executive functioning, behavioural, adaptive functioning and neurodevelopmental measures

• Experience with complex or overlapping neurodevelopmental presentations

• Experience communicating assessment findings to parents, schools and other health professionals
