About the role
Australian Ceramics Engineering (ACE)
Australian Ceramics Engineering (ACE) is a market leader in the supply of wear protection systems, providing clients with complete material handling solutions—including design, fabrication and on-site support—across Australia and internationally.
As we continue to grow, we are establishing an in-house blast and paint capability at our new Canning Vale facility and are seeking an experienced Painter / Blaster to join our Operations team.
This role will support the preparation and coating of mining equipment components including chutes, liners, and wear packages supplied to leading mining clients.
Reporting to the Operations team, this is a full-time role ideal for an experienced industrial painter/blaster with strong knowledge of surface preparation standards and protective coating systems used in heavy industry and mining fabrication environments.
At ACE, we live by our STRIDE values: Safety, Teamwork, Results, Integrity, Dynamic and Environmental Responsibility, and we are looking for someone who shares this mindset.
What You Will Be Doing
• Performing abrasive blasting and surface preparation activities in accordance with recognised standards including AS 1627 Surface Preparation of Steel and ISO 8501 Surface Cleanliness Standards
• Preparing fabricated mining components by removing contaminants such as rust, mill scale and previous coatings to ensure surfaces are ready for coating application
• Applying industrial protective coating systems including primers, sealers and specialised coatings to mining equipment components such as chutes, liners and wear packages
• Monitoring environmental conditions including humidity and temperature to ensure coating applications meet specification requirements
• Inspecting surfaces prior to coating and verifying preparation standards are achieved
• Ensuring correct coating application and film thickness using appropriate inspection and measurement tools
• Maintaining blasting and painting equipment including spray systems, blast pots, compressors and ventilation equipment
• Completing QA documentation including surface preparation records, coating inspection reports and quality checklists
• Supporting the development of internal blast and paint procedures as ACE expands its in-house coating capability
• Working closely with tradespeople, fabrication teams and supervisors to ensure components are prepared and completed in line with production schedules
• Adhering to strict safety procedures associated with abrasive blasting, coatings, hazardous materials and workshop operations
What We Are Looking For
• Demonstrated experience in abrasive blasting and industrial coating within fabrication, mining or heavy industry environments
• Strong knowledge of surface preparation standards and industrial protective coating systems
• Experience operating blasting and coating equipment including spray systems, blast pots and compressors
• Sound understanding of workplace health and safety requirements related to blasting and painting activities
• Experience completing coating inspection checks and quality documentation
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality coating outcomes
• Ability to work effectively within a workshop environment and collaborate with production teams
• A proactive and safety-focused approach to work
Qualifications and Tickets
• AMPP Protective Coatings or Coating Inspection Qualification (formerly NACE / SSPC) – Required
• Certificate III in Surface Preparation and Coating Application (or relevant experience) – Preferred
• Construction White Card – Required
• Forklift Licence – Preferred
• Confined Space Entry – Preferred • Working at Heights – Preferred
• Overhead crane experience – Preferred
Why Join ACE?
At ACE, we believe our people are key to our success. We offer a supportive and collaborative environment where your ideas are valued and your development is encouraged.
• Brand new Canning Vale facility with modern workshop and blasting infrastructure
• Modern onsite amenities including a fully equipped staff gym
• Free onsite parking for all employees
• Opportunity to work with a national industry leader supplying wear protection system to the mining sector
• Supportive team environment focused on safety, quality and continuous improvement
• Access to a confidential Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
