About the Team

Our Operations team works with a diverse customer base to support several nationally significant supply chains. With management responsibility spanning across five states, our 8,500km rail network is used to transport bulk products, passenger and general freight, including steel and a vast array of consumer items such as groceries, electrical goods and other items for both import and export markets.

The Operations teams work within several complex and challenging environments, including some of the busiest rail corridors in Australia to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable service delivery outcomes for its customers, stakeholders and the community.

Join ARTC's National Structures team and play a key role in maintaining the safety, reliability and performance of one of Australia's largest rail networks. Working across a diverse portfolio of steel, concrete and masonry structures, you'll use your engineering expertise to influence maintenance strategies, manage asset performance and support critical infrastructure that keeps Australia moving.

About the Opportunity

As an Asset Engineer Structures, you'll provide technical engineering support to optimise the performance and lifecycle of ARTC's structural assets. You'll work closely with operational and engineering stakeholders to analyse inspection data, manage asset risks, develop maintenance strategies and contribute to long-term infrastructure planning.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and making a tangible impact on nationally significant infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve the performance and reliability of structural assets.
• Review engineering inspections, analyse condition data and manage structural defects through the Asset Management System.
• Coordinate risk-based engineering inspections and provide technical assurance across the structures portfolio.
• Assess structural performance and provide engineering recommendations to support safe and effective asset management decisions.
• Investigate asset failures, identify root causes and recommend practical maintenance and repair solutions.
• Support the planning and prioritisation of preventative, corrective and reactive maintenance programs.
• Contribute to annual works planning, project development and long-term asset strategies.
• Provide technical input into infrastructure projects, ensuring maintainability, operability and inspection requirements are considered.
• Monitor emerging asset risks and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to develop effective mitigation strategies.
• Drive continuous improvement by using engineering analysis and asset performance data to enhance maintenance outcomes.

What do we want from you?

You'll be a technically capable engineer who enjoys working with complex infrastructure and using data-driven decision making to improve asset performance.

You'll also bring:

• Degree qualifications in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
• Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.
• Experience in the design, maintenance or asset management of steel and/or concrete structures.
• Experience monitoring structural asset condition and interpreting engineering inspection data.
• Strong understanding of risk management, engineering principles and asset lifecycle management.
• Demonstrated experience managing budgets, projects or maintenance programs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Commercial awareness and the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
• Current Class C Driver's Licence.

Desirable

• Experience within rail, transport or other heavy infrastructure industries.
• Knowledge of Australian and international structural engineering standards.
• Understanding of rail safety legislation and rail safe working principles.
