This position is a fixed term full-time opportunity until 30 June 2027, with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

This selection process may be used to fill other similar at level vacancies that arise within twelve (12) months. Applicants deemed suitable but not recommended may be considered for those roles.

About the Role

The Manager Media leads the DFES media team. You will set how the agency works with the media, from everyday stories about prevention and preparedness through to a bushfire, cyclone or flood.

This is a senior advisory role. You will advise the Commissioner, the Corporate Executive and the Minister's Office on how DFES should respond when an issue is moving quickly and the facts are still forming and you will decide what the agency says and when. You will also run the earned media work that helps West Australians understand risk before a bad season starts.

You will lead a small, capable team and support the public information effort behind every warning DFES issues, including Emergency WA.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information

DFES is an emergency services organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies and additional allowances may apply.

Employees in this position participate in an on-call roster, may be required to attend emergency incidents, and may be required to undertake regular intrastate travel by air and/or road.

Eligibility To Apply

You must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency to be considered for permanent appointments or hold a working visa covering the term of the contract (proof must be provided with your application) to be eligible for this position.

National Police Certificate

A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.  

Choice of Super

The Fire and Emergency Services (Superannuation Fund) Regulations 1986, prevents DFES from offering choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently, only have the following two options:

• Remain with their existing GESB Superannuation account; or
• Join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (Click here for more information).

Those appointed on a fixed term contract do have choice of super, however if converted to permanent, employees will need to choose one on the two options listed above.
