Apprentice Chef - Year 2

Daydream Island Resort & Living Reef is located in the heart of Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands and the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef.  With stunning views out to the impossibly blue waters of the Whitsundays, it is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the island. 

The island is one of the closest Whitsunday islands to the mainland (Airlie Beach) with spectacular 30-minute ferry ride.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about cooking and keen to obtain a formal qualification.  This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Chef to learn and grow in a professional, fast-paced environment.  As an Apprentice Chef, you will work closely with our experienced culinary team, gaining hands-on experience and comprehensive training in all aspects of kitchen operations. 

About the role

• Assist in the preparation and cooking of various dishes under the supervision of senior chefs
• Learn and practice food safety, hygiene, and kitchen safety protocols
• Participate in menu planning and contribute with your creative ideas
• Assist with the daily cleaning and organisation of the kitchen, ensuring all equipment is maintained properly
• Receive and store deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotations
• Support the team during busy service periods, maintaining high standards of quality and presentation
• Continuously develop culinary skills through training and practical experience

About you

• A genuine passion for cooking and a desire to pursue a career in the culinary arts. 
• Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and food safety practices
• Strong work ethic, reliability and willingness to learn 
• Exceptional teamwork and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle pressure with a positive attitude
• Previous kitchen experience or culinary education is advantageous but not required
