Senior Engineering Manager (Growth and Rewards) 

The Senior Engineering Manager for the Growth and Rewards tribe leads the squads closest to how customers discover Pay, get to first successful payment, and keep coming back. This role oversees three squads: Activation (onboarding, verification and first transaction), Website Tech (marketing site) and Rewards (points earn, redemption and transfer partner experiences).  

Success looks like measurable movement in activation and retention metrics, not just shipped features. This leader runs their squads as a learning system: a healthy experiment pipeline, clean instrumentation, honest read-outs, and fast decisions on what to scale or kill. They own delivery quality and the production support experience within their teams, and they partner with Product, Marketing and Growth as a genuine peer in shaping the roadmap rather than receiving it. 

Responsibilities  

• Lead and develop three engineering squads across Activation, Website and Rewards, building a high performance and accountable culture 
• Own outcomes, not just output. Hold the squads to agreed activation, conversion and retention targets alongside delivery commitments 
• Partner with Product Managers as a co-owner of the roadmap, shaping problem definition, sequencing and trade-offs rather than accepting a fixed backlog 
• Establish best practices around experimentation: clean feature flag hygiene and disciplined stop or scale decisions 
• Ensure the analytics foundation is trustworthy, working with Data to keep event taxonomy, funnel definitions and metric ownership consistent across squads 
• Own product support within the squads: triage, response and resolution standards, on call expectations, escalation paths, and a visible loop from recurring support themes back into the roadmap 
• Drive engineering quality across a high change rate surface area, including release safety, observability, incident management and post incident learning 
• Champion modern engineering practices, including AI assisted development, to lift throughput, code quality and delivery velocity 
• Establish and improve engineering rituals, metrics and operating cadence so delivery and experiment velocity are both transparent and predictable 
• Hire, mentor and grow engineering talent, building a leadership bench across the tribe 
• Collaborate cross functionally with Marketing, Security, Data and Platform to meet brand, privacy and compliance requirements 

About You 

• Product mindset: Genuine product instinct. Comfortable arguing about customer problems, funnel economics and prioritisation, and able to say no with evidence 
• Experimentation: Hands on experience running A/B and multivariate programs at meaningful volume, including statistical literacy sufficient to challenge a weak read on a result 
• Product support ownership: Track record of owning the support and escalation experience inside engineering teams, and of converting support signal into roadmap change 
• Technical skills: Strong background in modern web and mobile-web engineering, front end performance, CMS or web platform architecture, and integration heavy systems 
• Experience: 10+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years leading multiple teams or squads 
• Domain knowledge: Growth, activation, loyalty or rewards, marketplace or ecommerce experience preferred. Fintech exposure is a plus 
• Delivery leadership: Proven ability to ship at pace on customer facing surfaces without sacrificing quality or reliability 
• AI and modern practices: Demonstrated use of AI tools to improve engineering productivity and workflows 
• Communication: Strong stakeholder management, particularly with Marketing and commercial teams, and the ability to translate between engineering and revenue language 
• Customer mindset: Deep empathy for customers and a habit of watching real sessions and support tickets, not just dashboards
