Executive Support Officer - Office of Statewide Pathology Services

The Team

The Department of Health has created a new statewide pathology service, THS Pathology. The service has seen the transition of the current pathology laboratories at the Launceston General Hospital and Royal Hobart Hospital into one pathology service. With this, there is a new team forming around existing operations and with the Executive Support Officer role an important part of the new team.

The Role

The Executive Support Officer (ESO) role is the primary support to the Executive Director of THS Pathology and office supporting the THS Pathology at a service level.  The position can be based in either Launceston or Hobart and ESO may be required to travel between sites to support work in both part of the service from time to time.  It is a busy and exciting role requiring the successful candidate to have high attention to detail and excellent time management to achieve the support needed for the service and the Executive Director.  

You will need

• Proven high-level experience in and understanding of contemporary executive and administrative support within a senior management environment, including the ability to prepare and coordinate written materials and manage flow of information.
• Well-developed organisational and research skills, together with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, manage a diverse and often competing workload to achieve desired outcomes within an environment subject to continuous change.
• High level written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate effective outcomes with a wide range of stakeholders as part of a senior management team, with diplomacy and in a sensitive and confidential manner.

Details of appointment

Permanent position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 11 October 2026.

*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$85,196 to $97,915 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

• Salary range is in accordance with Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award, General Stream, Band 4.
