Maintenance Technician

About the role

We are seeking a trade-qualified Maintenance Technician / Fitter and Turner to maintain our site equipment, laboratory assets, utilities and facilities.

 This is a practical, hands-on position requiring someone who can work confidently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively as part of a team. The role will be responsible for planned maintenance, breakdown support, contractor coordination, and keeping calibration and certification bookings and registers current.

 Experience in the pharmaceutical, food or another regulated industry is preferred.

 Key responsibilities

 ·        Perform planned, preventative and corrective maintenance on site equipment and facilities.

·        Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, identify faults and complete repairs within your trade skills and authority.

·        Coordinate specialist or licensed contractors when work falls outside your trade scope.

·        Maintain laboratory and support equipment, which may include autoclaves, microscopes, centrifuges, hot-air ovens and laminar airflow cabinets.

·        Support the maintenance and reliable operation of HVAC and reverse osmosis (RO) water systems.

·        Identify facility defects, raise maintenance work requests and follow repairs through to completion.

·        Book and coordinate approved contractors, including arranging site access, inductions, permits and required safety documentation.

·        Monitor contractor work and collect service reports, certificates and other close-out documentation.

·        Coordinate equipment calibration and facility or equipment certification appointments.

·        Monitor calibration and certification due dates and ensure activities are booked before they expire.

·        Keep calibration, certification and maintenance registers accurate and current.

·        Maintain equipment service histories, work orders, manuals, maintenance records and contractor documentation.

·        Assist operational and laboratory teams with troubleshooting equipment and facility problems.

·        Follow access, gowning, hygiene and contamination-control requirements when working in graded laboratories and restricted areas.

·        Work in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements, isolation and lockout procedures, site policies and applicable quality or food-safety requirements.

·        Report breakdowns, overdue work, recurring faults, safety concerns and maintenance risks directly to the Validation Team Leader.

About you

 Essential requirements

 ·        A recognised mechanical trade qualification, such as Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade, Fitter and Turner, Mechanical Fitter or an equivalent qualification/or experience.

·        Hands-on experience maintaining equipment and facilities in an industrial, manufacturing, laboratory or process environment.

·        Strong mechanical fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.

·        Experience performing preventative and corrective maintenance.

·        Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, drawings and technical instructions.

·        Ability to work safely and effectively with minimal supervision.

·        A cooperative approach and the ability to work as part of a cross-functional team.

·        Good organisational skills and attention to maintenance schedules and due dates.

·        Accurate record-keeping and basic computer skills.

·        Clear written and verbal communication.

·        A strong commitment to workplace safety.

 Preferred experience

 ·        Previous maintenance experience in the pharmaceutical, food, biotechnology, medical-device or another regulated environment.

·        Knowledge of laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, microscopes, centrifuges, hot-air ovens and laminar airflow cabinets.

·        Practical understanding of HVAC and RO water systems.

·        Experience working in graded laboratories, controlled environments or restricted-access areas.

·        Experience coordinating contractors and external service providers.

·        Experience booking calibrations and certifications and maintaining associated registers.

·        Experience using a computerised maintenance management system.

·        Familiarity with GMP, HACCP or similar quality and food-safety requirements.
