The Role
The Midwifery Educator Maternity Services has an integral role in the promotion of excellence in the care of women who access our service. Together with the Managers, the Educator will by collaboration, communication and respect act as a positive role model to all staff working within the Maternity Division. The Midwifery Educator plays an integral role with the development of educational Midwifery plans for staff working within the Maternity Division and co-ordinates assessment of competency for Midwifery staff.
The Midwifery Educator is responsible for planning and coordinating the clinical education of undergraduate and postgraduate student midwives and registered midwives and, provides support and facilitation to the Clinical Midwifery Educators throughout the Maternity Division, aligning key priorities and strategic directions within the service. The Midwifery Educator communicates, designs and implements education including Midwifery mandatory education requirements to ensure learning needs are met.
The Midwifery Educator will oversee the student midwives in the completion of their clinical record books relevant to all areas. The Midwifery Educator will maintain effective communication links with the universities and within the clinical midwifery setting. The Midwifery Educator will liaise with the Nurse Manager Education, Practice and Professional Development to ensure that student and midwives' competencies are monitored as they develop and that appropriate action is taken to ensure that students develop as safe practitioners
