About the role
Are you an experienced Disability Support Worker ready to make a meaningful difference?
Connecting Families is seeking a compassionate, patient, and skilled support worker to
provide person-centered support to a female participant in Northside ACT with complex
disability, communication, behavioural, and health support needs.
This is an opportunity for a dedicated worker who enjoys building strong relationships,
supporting independence, and helping participants achieve their goals in a safe,
respectful, and empowering environment.
About the Role
• Casual position
• Provide 1:1 disability support including daily living assistance, community participation,
emotional support, and skill development.
• Support a participant living with intellectual disability, Sturge Weber syndrome,
hemiplegia, epilepsy, and glaucoma.
• Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies and follow individual support plans.
• Assist with routines, transitions, emotional regulation, and maintaining a predictable and
supportive environment.
• Support community access, meaningful activities, and opportunities to develop
independence.
Applicants must be comfortable supporting a participant who requires consistency,
patience, clear communication, and proactive behaviour support approaches.
What We’re Looking For
• Experience working with participants with intellectual disability, complex support needs,
or behaviours of concern.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and supportive during periods of distress or emotional
escalation.
• Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), person-centered care, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Strong rapport-building skills and the ability to establish trust with participants.
• Ability to follow detailed support plans, maintain routines, and support transitions
effectively.
• Reliable, flexible, and committed to providing consistent support.
Key Responsibilities
• Support daily living skills and encourage independence.
• Assist with community access, appointments, and meaningful activities.
• Provide reassurance and support with emotional regulation strategies.
• Use clear communication, visual supports, and predictable routines to support
participation.
• Support safe travel practices and community engagement.
• Complete accurate shift notes, incident reports, and behaviour observations when
required.
Requirements
• Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, or equivalent.
• NDIS Worker Screening Check (current or willing to obtain).
• First Aid (HLTAID011) & CPR (HLTAID009).
• Valid driver’s licence and reliable insured vehicle.
• Experience in disability support, complex needs, or behavioural support is highly
desirable.
