The City of Wanneroo is looking for an Archivist to join our friendly Information Management team.
This is an opportunity to play an important role in protecting the City’s records, supporting good information governance and helping our people find the information they need when they need it.
About the Role
Reporting to the Team Leader Information Management this role is
responsible for providing professional records management and
archival service that supports the safekeeping of the City’s
records that have long term value.
A key responsibility of the role is to manage the retention and disposal of the City’s hard copy and electronic records in accordance with the State Records Act 2000 and the General Retention and Disposal Authority for Local Governments while ensuring that service delivery is timely, effective and efficient and meets both customer needs and corporate standards.
Working as part of the Information Management team, you will provide quality archival services across the organisation, ensuring records with long-term value are appropriately managed, preserved and accessible.
Your days will include:
• Arranging, describing, assessing, evaluating, preserving and
disposing of records in accordance with legislation, standards and
City procedures.
• Managing record transfers and supporting the destruction and
disposal of records.
• Undertaking searches and retrievals, including complex
information requests.
• Maintaining archival registers, databases and information
management systems.
• Supporting the retention and disposal schedule process.
• Undertaking quality assurance and audits of existing records.
• Providing advice and assistance to employees and stakeholders on
archiving and records disposal.
• Assisting with training and promoting good information management
practices across the organisation.
• Working with stakeholders including government agencies, the
State Records Office, other local governments, suppliers, employees
and members of the community.
• Identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and
service delivery.
No two days will necessarily be the same, so you’ll need to be comfortable balancing competing priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy and customer service.
About you
You will bring a combination of technical knowledge, attention to
detail and a genuine commitment to providing great service.
To be successful, you will have:
• A qualification in Records Management, Archives or a related
discipline, or relevant equivalent experience.
• Experience working in a similar archival, records or information
management role.
• Knowledge of archiving and records disposal principles and
practices.
• Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation and
standards, including the State Records Act 2000 (WA) and Privacy
and Responsible Information Sharing Act 2024 (WA) (PRIS
Act).
• Understanding of records retention, disposal and compliance
requirements within a local government environment.
• Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and
manage competing tasks.
• Good research, analytical, problem-solving and communication
skills.
• Strong customer service skills and the confidence to work with a
diverse range of stakeholders.
• Sound computer and information systems skills, including accurate
data entry and record keeping. (Experience in HPE Content Manager
will be highly regarded).
• The ability to work independently while also contributing
positively to a collaborative team environment.
• Most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes pride in accurate
work, enjoys solving information puzzles and understands the
importance of getting the right information to the right
people.
