Occupational Therapist – Contractor – In-Home Services – Cessnock area

Kinder Caring is seeking experienced, self-motivated and compassionate occupational therapists to provide in-home assessment, therapy and recommendations to older people, people with disability and people recovering from injury or illness across the Cessnock and Hunter area.

This opportunity is suitable for both individual occupational therapy contractors and small allied health practices looking to expand their in-home client base. It is ideal for occupational therapists who value professional autonomy, flexibility and meaningful, client-centred work—whether you want to grow your practice or complement your existing client commitments.

About the opportunity

Provide personalised occupational therapy services to aged care, NDIS, insurance-funded and private clients, supporting them to participate in everyday activities and live safely and independently at home and in the community.

Through the Kinder Caring App, approved occupational therapists can select their preferred service areas, view and choose client opportunities that suit their availability, clinical experience and business capacity, and set their own rates subject to any applicable maximum rates for the relevant service or funding arrangement.

Opportunities may include regular, short-term and one-off services.

Occupational therapy services may include

• Assessing functional capacity, daily living activities, home safety and support needs
• Developing individualised therapy and independence-building programs
• Assessing, trialling and recommending assistive technology and equipment
• Assessing and recommending minor or major home modifications within your scope of practice
• Educating clients, families, carers and support networks
• Reviewing outcomes and preparing required assessments, clinical reports and recommendations

Contractor responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence-based and person-centred occupational therapy services within your professional scope of practice
• Complete appropriate assessments and deliver services in accordance with the client’s agreed goals and service requirements
• Exercise independent professional and clinical judgement and obtain informed consent
• Maintain accurate, timely and complete clinical records
• Ensure recommendations are clinically appropriate, evidence-based and consistent with applicable funding requirements
• Treat clients respectfully and maintain their dignity, privacy and confidentiality
• Use the Kinder Caring App to record attendance and complete required service notes
• Promptly report incidents, risks, complaints and material changes affecting the client or service
• Comply with applicable professional standards, codes, legislation and funding requirements
• Maintain all required registrations, screening clearances, competencies and insurances

Requirements

Applicants must have:

• A recognised qualification in occupational therapy
• Current general registration as an occupational therapist with AHPRA, without conditions that prevent the provision of the relevant services
• Relevant occupational therapy experience, preferably involving community, aged care, disability, rehabilitation or home-based services
• The ability to assess clients and practise independently in home and community settings
• An active ABN and the legal right to work and provide services in Australia, together with appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance and workers compensation insurance where applicable
• A current National Police Check and any required role- or client-specific clearances, including an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance or Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain them
• Reliable transport to travel between clients’ homes across [region], including a valid driver licence and appropriately registered and insured vehicle where required
• Access to appropriate clinical assessment tools, equipment and resources
• A smartphone with reliable internet access
• Strong assessment, clinical documentation, report-writing, communication and interpersonal skills
• A reliable, respectful and client-focused approach
• Two relevant professional or business references

Where an allied health practice uses employees or other personnel to provide services, each treating occupational therapist must satisfy Kinder Caring’s applicable registration, screening, competency, onboarding and service requirements.

Pay: $140.00 – $160.00 per hour
