About the role
Are you passionate about wildlife and committed to delivering the highest standards of animal care? Join the leadership team at Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre and play a key role in shaping the future of captive wildlife management while inspiring visitors to connect with and protect Queensland’s unique natural heritage.
As the Ranger, W004 (Captive Wildlife Team Leader), you will lead best-practice wildlife husbandry, enrichment, conditioning, and welfare programs, ensuring exceptional care for our captive wildlife collection. Working closely with a dedicated team, you will drive continuous improvement, champion preventative health and welfare outcomes, and help create meaningful experiences that encourage visitors to value and protect wildlife.

As a key member of the Walkabout Creek Discovery Centre leadership team, you will lead and mentor staff in wildlife husbandry, behavioural conditioning, enrichment, and animal welfare practices. You will be responsible for ensuring captive wildlife care meets and exceeds legislative requirements, organisational policies, industry standards, and accreditation expectations.
In this role, you will develop and implement preventative health, enrichment, and welfare programs that support outstanding animal wellbeing outcomes. You will monitor animal health and welfare, maintain accurate records and reporting systems, and champion continuous improvement initiatives that promote best-practice wildlife management. You will also contribute to operational planning, site leadership responsibilities, and the delivery of engaging visitor experiences that inspire appreciation and conservation of Queensland's unique wildlife. Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will help achieve positive wildlife care and conservation outcomes.
