About the role
Full Time | Permanent
CatholicCare Tasmania is the primary social services agency of the Catholic Church in Tasmania. Guided by our values of Hope, Connection, Authenticity and Courage, we support individuals, families and communities across the state through a broad range of services.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Workplace Health & Safety Lead to join our Safety and Risk team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening workplace safety, supporting compliance, and fostering a positive safety culture across a diverse and purpose-driven organisation.
Reporting to the Head of Safety and Risk, the Workplace Health & Safety Lead provides expert advice and leadership to ensure CatholicCare Tasmania meets its WHS obligations and continues to improve safety outcomes across the organisation.
This role combines strategic oversight with operational support and will see you working closely with leaders and teams to translate WHS requirements into practical solutions that support service delivery and organisational excellence.
At CatholicCare Tasmania, you’ll be part of an organisation that genuinely values people, community and purpose.
We offer:
We are guided by four core values:
Hope
We believe in the strength of Tasmanians. We reflect the goodness we see in others, providing support that encourages individuals and families to work towards a better tomorrow.
Connection
We build trust and a sense of belonging, cultivating empathy and nurturing joy. We foster a safe, inclusive and collaborative environment where meaningful relationships flourish.
Authenticity
We stay true to our mission. We are honest about what is working and what is not – with each other and with the people we support. We take responsibility for our words and make sure they align with our choices, action and impact.
Courage
We speak up bravely for voices that are unheard – in our Teams, Services and Community. We work towards what is just and right, even when the path is challenging.
CatholicCare Tasmania is committed to safeguarding children and young people and maintaining environments where they are safe, respected and protected. All employees are required to uphold our safeguarding policies and report concerns in accordance with organisational requirements.
To be successful in this role you will bring:
1. Demonstrated qualifications and experience in Work Health and Safety, including strong knowledge and practical application of contemporary WHS legislation, regulations, codes of practice and compliance frameworks.
2. Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and maintaining WHS management systems, policies, procedures and risk management frameworks, including the ability to identify hazards, assess risks, implement controls and ensure ongoing legislative compliance.
3. Proven ability to design, deliver and evaluate WHS training, induction and awareness programs that build capability, promote accountability and foster a positive safety culture across diverse work environments.
4. Experience conducting WHS audits, inspections, reviews and assurance activities, analysing findings and implementing practical improvements to strengthen organisational safety performance and compliance outcomes.
5. Demonstrated experience investigating incidents, hazards and near misses, including the use of contemporary investigation methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis, and the ability to prepare clear reports, recommendations and trend analyses.
6. Highly developed interpersonal, communication and consultation skills, with the ability to build effective relationships, influence decision-making and facilitate positive change with leaders, employees and a broad range of stakeholders.
7. Well-developed analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex information, develop pragmatic solutions, exercise sound judgement and take accountability for decisions and actions.
8. High-level written communication skills, including demonstrated experience preparing policies, procedures, reports, briefing papers and governance documentation that support organisational compliance and decision-making.
9. Demonstrated ability to work in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of CatholicCare Tasmania and a commitment to creating safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces.
