Field Assessment Officer

• Temporary Full-Time until 30 June 2028
• Based in Queanbeyan or Batesman Bay, location negotiable with three days per week in the office, a supportive team environment, and opportunities for professional growth.
• Salary ranges from $116,981 to $129,492 pa plus superannuation and annual leave loading

About the role

Rewarding opportunity to be a part of a team that supports schools and students in providing essential services and support. The role will:

• Receive and assess reports relating to students who may be at risk of harm, ensuring accurate records and timely case management.
• Provide high-quality advice and guidance to mandatory reporters on child protection obligations, response options and appropriate referral pathways.
• Work with internal teams and community partners to support effective and coordinated responses for students and their families.
• Deliver professional learning to mandatory reporters
• Provide culturally appropriate advice and support, including referral pathways for Aboriginal students and their families.
• Contribute to child protection training and professional learning, supporting staff to understand relevant policies, systems and procedures.
• Identify emerging trends and complex issues affecting student safety and wellbeing and provide timely advice to leadership.

About you

The ideal candidate will have:

• Child protection practice and experience, including front line child protection work with families, and direct work with professionals within child protection.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as the ability to convey empathy during difficult conversations
• Experience working in high pressure environments and demonstrate resilience working in stressful situations
• Demonstrated skills and experience in effective use of databases (such as ChildStory).
• Efficient data entry skills including proficient typing ability
• A working understanding of the legislation governing child protection within NSW.
• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
• Child protection practice and experience, including front line child protection work with families, and direct work with professionals within the child protection context.

Essential requirements of the role

• Current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for paid employment.
• Current and Valid NSW Driver’s License
• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.

How did you assess risk, engage reluctant participants, apply relevant legislation and policy, and advocate for the child's safety and wellbeing despite the barriers? What consultation pathways did you consider or use and what was the result?
