About the role
About the opportunity
The Scientific Software & Computing Support Technician supports the Senior Linux Administrator and the Scientific Computing Team in supporting a diverse range of custom computing infrastructure and delivers bespoke technology support for Faculty of Science equipment. This can include associated computing hardware/firmware, operating systems, applications, software, storage, and related 'hands-on' support. The position is a field-service customer interface for the Scientific Computing Team working under general direction as a routine contact point for receiving, handling, and resolving a broad range of support incidents and requests. This role will deliver timely and effective technical services within these areas to achieve enhanced education/research support outcomes.
The Scientific Software & Computing Support Technician will assist in implementing new processes, procedures, systems, and ways of working within the work area to improve customer service delivery, efficiency and resource utilisation as directed. The Scientific Software & Computing Support Technician will provide training to facility users in the safe operation of equipment, software, and computing infrastructure. The role supports the senior technical officer in ensuring that the relevant Work, Health and Safety standards and other compliance requirements of the work area are met and are aligned to the University's WHS policy and relevant legislation.
The Scientific Software and Computing Support Technician will provide guidance to junior staff in the work area to deliver work outputs.
The successful candidate will be required to work on-site four days per week, with one day per week available for remote work (work from home).
