About the Role

We are looking for a Lighting Designer to join our team on a full-time basis.

This is a lighting design role focused on project applications, not luminaire or lighting product design. You will use lighting design and modelling software to develop lighting layouts, undertake photometric calculations and simulations, and apply Coolon products to real-world Industrial and Architectural projects.

We welcome applications from both experienced lighting designers and junior designers who have the right technical foundation and are keen to develop their lighting design expertise.

You will work across Industrial and Architectural projects, ranging from architectural spaces to complex industrial environments, including mining and processing facilities, multi-level structures and large equipment areas.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare lighting layouts, concepts, photometric calculations and technical documentation for Industrial and Architectural applications.

• Use AGi32, DIALux and other lighting design software to assess light levels, uniformity and overall lighting performance.

• Interpret architectural and engineering drawings, electrical plans, tender documentation, project briefs and technical specifications.

• Develop practical lighting solutions using 2D drawings and 3D models, including Navisworks where required.

• Select suitable Coolon lighting products, optics, mounting arrangements and control options to achieve the required technical, functional and architectural outcomes.

• Consider structures, equipment, shadowing, mounting locations and other project conditions that may affect lighting performance and integration.

• Prepare lighting schedules, drawings, reports, mark-ups and other supporting design documentation.

• Work with clients, consultants, architects, engineers and internal Sales and Project teams, providing lighting design advice and supporting projects through to delivery.

• Keep up to date with lighting technology, controls, relevant standards and industry best practice.

Qualifications

• Experience or training in lighting design and photometric calculations.

• Experience with AGi32 and/or DIALux.

• Experience with Navisworks or other 3D modelling software is highly regarded.

• Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical and engineering drawings.

• Understanding of lighting principles such as illuminance, uniformity, glare, light distribution and shadowing.

• Strong attention to detail and an organised approach to your work.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with different disciplines.

• Previous experience with Industrial, Architectural, mining, infrastructure or other complex lighting applications is highly regarded, but not essential for junior applicants.

• MIES membership, or eligibility to work towards membership, is preferred.

• RLP accreditation is beneficial.
