About the role
About the role
National Youth Program Coordinator (0.6 FTE)
This role is ideally based in Canberra; however, remote working arrangements may be considered for the right applicant.
This is an opportunity to play a practical role in growing one of Australia's longest-running youth development programs, supporting young people to build skills, confidence and a lifelong commitment to service. The National Youth Program Coordinator is a paid role based at St John Ambulance Australia's National Office in Canberra. Remote working arrangements may be considered for a suitable applicant. The role is part-time, three days per week, and reports to the Director of Partnerships, Fundraising and Community Impact. The role is ideal for someone who can bring structure to busy programs, keep work moving and build positive rapport with people across a national network. In a federated organisation, success will rely on empathy, collaboration, trust-building and the ability to influence and support others rather than direct them.
Key responsibilities
Coordinate youth-related projects and help turn agreed priorities into clear plans, actions and outcomes.
Support national working groups, including tracking actions, following up progress and helping remove practical barriers.
Develop, maintain and improve Youth Program resources, templates, guidance materials and practical tools.
Support National Youth Taskforce meetings, including agendas, minutes, action tracking and meeting coordination.
Build strong working relationships across the national youth network.
Support a child safe and youth-centered approach across national Youth Program activities.
Assist with other administrative tasks relating to strategic programs where capacity allows.
Identify opportunities to make processes clearer, simpler and more efficient.
About you
You are organised, reliable and efficient, but also approachable, respectful and motivated by youth development, community service and positive outcomes for young people.
You will bring strong organisational skills, confident communication, practical problem-solving and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Experience working with volunteers, community organisations or member-based programs would be highly regarded.
You will have a demonstrated commitment to child safety, youth participation and creating inclusive, respectful environments for young people.
The successful applicant will be required to maintain any relevant Working with Children or Working with Vulnerable People checks required for the role.
About us
For more than 100 years, the St John Youth/Cadet Program has helped young people build practical first aid skills, develop leadership capability and contribute to their communities. The program has a direct and lasting positive impact on young people, supporting them to grow in confidence, build meaningful connections and learn skills that can help save lives. St John has an ambitious but exciting growth plan for the Youth/Cadet Program. St John Ambulance Australia is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children who participate in St John activities, programs, events or services. St John has zero tolerance for child abuse and neglect.
Child safety commitment
St John Ambulance Australia Limited is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children who participate in St John activities, programs, events or services. St John has zero tolerance for child abuse and neglect. We take all allegations and concerns about abuse very seriously. St John will always strive to ensure that children do not experience abuse, neglect, harm or exploitation during their involvement with us.

We encourage applications from First Nations people, people living with disability, gender and sexually diverse people, and people who have come to Australia as migrants and refugees.
