Manager, Family Connection and Restoration

Health and Community Services Directorate (HCSD) is seeking an experienced Manager, Family Connection and Restoration to lead a dedicated team focused on strengthening family, culture and community connections for children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC).

In this critical leadership role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Family Connection and Restoration team while driving initiatives that support the implementation of the Our Booris, Our Way recommendations. You will contribute to systemic improvements that ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children grow up safe, strong and connected to their families, culture and communities.

The Manager works closely with internal and external stakeholders to lead and oversee reviews and assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in OOHC. You will provide clinical leadership and expert advice on risk assessment, restoration suitability, restoration planning and pathways, and support contemporary policy and practice development. A key focus of the role is strengthening and maintaining meaningful connections between children, their families, kinship networks and communities.

Eligibility/Other Requirements: 

• This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity is considered essential and therefore confirmation of cultural identity may be requested.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Welfare, Social Science or related discipline are essential.
• Please note: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who do not have these qualifications, but who have appropriate and relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage and experience are eligible to apply.
• To be successful for this role you must have at least five (5) years of demonstrated practical experience working with children, young people and/or their families in a social work/case management role.
• Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
• Driver’s licence is essential.

Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for up to 12 months with the possibility of permanency.

A merit pool may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
