About the role
Director Teaching and Learning
Full-time fixed term (3 year contract) position commencing Term 1 2027
The King David School requires a dynamic and vision-driven Director Teaching and Learning to provide strategic, school-wide leadership of educational practices across Prep to Year 12. Reporting to the Principal and as a member of the senior leadership team, this role leads pedagogy in a structured, evidence-based, and intentional manner to ensure optimal outcomes for all students.
Key Responsibilities:
Pedagogical Leadership: Lead sound teaching and learning initiatives, embedded in learning theory, 'how students learn best', and innovative practices including WALKTHRUs, Explicit Teaching and data informed Responsive Teaching.
Curriculum & Assessment: Oversee Prep–12 curriculum and assessments, educational programs, NAPLAN/ALLWELL testing, continuous reporting via myKDS, VCE blocking grids, and subject selection processes.
Staff Coaching & Development: Guide and support Curriculum Coordinators, Assistant Head of JS, and Learning Area Leaders (LALs); coordinate whole-school Professional Development, peer observations and mentoring.
Strategic Operations & Governance: Assist with staff appointments and workload planning; manage assigned T&L portfolio budgets; serve as an instructional bridge between the Junior and Senior campuses.
The Successful Candidate Will Demonstrate:
Proven track record of strategic instructional leadership, curriculum design, and evidence-informed pedagogy.
Outstanding capacity to mentor, build collaborative teams, and command the respect of teaching staff.
Deep understanding of assessment frameworks, continuous reporting systems, and academic intervention models.
High-level communication skills to liaise effectively across leadership, staff, students, and parents.
Strong commitment to child safety standards and promoting a supportive, student-centred culture.
