Expression of Interest - Senior Project Engineer – European Train Control System (ETCS)

UGL is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer – European Train Control System (ETCS) to join our growing Major Projects team based on the Sunshine Coast.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in the delivery of complex rail signalling and train control projects, supporting the implementation and integration of ETCS technologies across critical rail infrastructure programs. You will work alongside industry-leading specialists, managing engineering delivery, project interfaces, safety assurance, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful project outcomes.

About the Role

As the Senior Project Engineer, you will provide technical and project leadership for ETCS elated works from planning and installation through to testing and handover.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the engineering delivery of ETCS projects and associated rail systems.

Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams across integration and testing activities.

Manage technical interfaces between stations, communications, rolling stock, power and operational stakeholders.

Oversee project schedules, budgets, risk management and engineering performance.

Ensure compliance with relevant rail safety standards, regulatory requirements and client specifications.

Support system integration, verification, validation and assurance activities.

Review and approve engineering documentation, technical submissions and project deliverables.

Manage subcontractors, suppliers and specialist engineering consultants.

Engage with clients, operators, regulators and internal stakeholders to drive successful project outcomes.

Provide mentoring and technical guidance to junior engineers and project team members.

About You

Minimum 10 years experience delivering rail signalling, train control or systems engineering projects.

Demonstrated experience with ETCS Level 1, Level 2 or equivalent advanced train control systems.

Strong understanding of railway signalling principles, systems integration and safety assurance processes.

Experience managing engineering deliverables on major infrastructure projects.

Knowledge of Australian rail standards and rail safety requirements.

Excellent stakeholder management, communication and leadership skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
