personal care worker

About the role

As a Personal Care Worker, you will provide individualised care and support in accordance with each resident's assessed needs, preferences and care plan. You will assist residents with activities of daily living while encouraging independence and choice wherever possible. You will be expected to recognise and report changes in a resident's condition, communicate effectively with Registered Nurses and accurately document the care you provide.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, respectful and person-centred care in accordance with each resident's care plan

• Assist with personal care including showering, grooming, dressing, continence care and toileting

• Support residents with mobility, transfers, repositioning and activities of daily living

• Assist residents with meals, hydration and nutritional support in accordance with their individual requirements

• Encourage residents to maintain independence, choice and participation in their daily lives

• Recognise and promptly report changes in a resident's physical, cognitive or emotional condition to the Registered Nurse

• Accurately document care provided and complete required care records

• Follow infection prevention and control, manual handling and workplace health and safety requirements

• Communicate respectfully and effectively with residents, families, Registered Nurses and other members of the team

• Support residents living with dementia using appropriate person-centred approaches

About you

• Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), Certificate III in Aged Care or an equivalent recognised qualification

• Previous experience working as a Personal Care Worker in residential aged care is preferred

• A genuine interest in supporting and caring for older people

• An understanding of person-centred care and the importance of dignity, choice and independence

• The ability to recognise changes in a resident's condition and escalate concerns appropriately

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Good documentation skills and attention to detail

• A compassionate, reliable and professional approach

• Ability to follow care plans, policies and directions from Registered Nurses

• Commitment to safe work practices and infection prevention and control
