Are you an experienced family violence practitioner passionate about walking alongside women and children to build safety, stability and brighter futures?

The Salvation Army is seeking a Specialist Family Violence Practitioner to join our Mackay team. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your specialist knowledge, case management skills and compassion to support women and children experiencing or at risk of family violence.

Why this role matters

The Salvation Army (Salvos) provides a wide range of services that support women and women with children impacted by family and domestic violence. We offer accommodation, counselling, support, behavioural programs, and advice to women and children at risk of, experiencing or escaping family violence. Our services focus on prevention, restoration, and healing to provide specialised support to address immediate safety issues and provide advice, referrals, and connection to assist the recovery journey.

About the role

This is a diverse and impactful role combining specialist family violence case management, assessment and crisis response.

You will work collaboratively with women and women with children to understand their individual circumstances, identify risks and strengths, and develop practical, person-centred plans that support their safety, wellbeing and recovery.

You will:

• Provide place-based case management to women and women with children experiencing family violence.
• Conduct comprehensive intake, ongoing risk assessments and support safety responding appropriately to changing circumstances.
• Develop individualised case plans collaboratively with clients, supporting self-determination, choice and participation.
• Provide crisis intervention and timely responses to clients experiencing immediate or escalating family violence concerns.
• Support clients to access appropriate housing, legal, health, financial, child wellbeing and community services.
• Advocate with external services to help clients overcome barriers and access the support they need.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with clients using trauma-informed and family violence-informed practice.
• Identify and escalate risks relating to victim-survivors and service delivery.
• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential client records in line with TSA standards and legislative requirements.
• Identify service gaps and contribute ideas that improve outcomes and strengthen service delivery.
• Participate in an on-call roster as required.

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a compassionate and capable practitioner who can build trust quickly, manage complex situations and remain calm and professional when responding to crisis.

You will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Family Violence or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in case management and client-centred practice.
• Experience working within the family violence sector is desirable.
• Specialist family violence and/or child wellbeing experience is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment, safety planning and trauma-informed practice.
• Excellent communication, advocacy and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands.
• The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
• Current Queensland Driver Licence.
• Current QLD Blue Card.
• Evidence of relevant qualifications.

This is more than a case management position. You’ll be part of creating safer pathways for women and children and supporting people to move from crisis towards recovery and independence.
