Town/Environmental Planning Consultant

Job Description 

We are looking for a passionate and motivated town/environmental planner to join our small team in Canberra. You will be able to provide sound statutory and strategic urban planning advice with a focus on elements of planning and environmental approvals.  

In this role you will support other members of our team and manage your own projects with our support.  

The role  

Supported by our experienced team, you may be asked to:  

• Provide a range of town and environmental planning services and advice relating to land use, approvals, environmental assessments, due diligence assessments and master planning.  

• Prepare and manage development, works and environmental approvals for various developments from small infrastructure projects to larger residential, community or mixed-use developments.  

• Communicate in a clear, concise, and timely manner to internal and external clients. 

• Provide well-reasoned written planning arguments and advice. 

• Contribute to the drafting of proposals, tenders, and submissions for projects. 

• Work alongside other professionals on multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring adherence to specifications, deadlines, budgets, and achieving desirable outcomes.

We are a small planning consulting business located in Canberra. We specialise in town and environmental planning in the Australian Capital Territory. We are a small supportive team but we need your help to look after our client’s needs.

We work on a wide variety of projects for our clients which include government, community organisations, not-for profits and private development.

About You  

Most importantly, you fit into our team. Also, you have: 

• Three or more years of relevant experience in urban and statutory planning, preferably in the ACT, ideally gained in consultancy or ACT government environment.

• Ideally, you have experience writing environmental impact assessments, environmental significance opinion applications and/or subdivision development applications in the ACT context. 

• Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Town Planning or a related discipline and are a member of PIA or qualify for membership.  

• The ability to prioritise and manage the competing demands of multiple projects within agreed timeframes, given workloads and timeframes can be difficult to predict.  

• Strong written and verbal communication skills and can engage with a variety of stakeholders.   

• Understanding of impacts and issues affecting land use and development. 

• An appreciation and understanding of the Crown Leasehold system.  

• The ability to collaborate and work well alongside the members of our small team or independently as the tasks require.  

• Good attention to detail and the ability to manage and respond to project challenges.  

• Initiative and good decision making in undertaking work tasks. 

• Awareness and tracking of project timelines and budgets
