Business Development & Marketing Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Development & Marketing Manager to join a highly regarded Australian professional services firm on a 12-month parental leave contract.

The organisation has grown significantly over the past five years, making this an exciting time to join and play a key role in its continued growth and evolution.

This is a broad and strategic role within the Business Development team, working closely with Partners and senior stakeholders to identify growth opportunities, strengthen client relationships and develop business development strategies across a diverse portfolio.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Business Development & Marketing Director, you will play a key role in driving business development activity across the Melbourne market.

You will work closely with Partners and senior stakeholders to develop and implement strategic business development plans, identify new opportunities and support the growth of existing client relationships.

The portfolio spans a diverse range of sectors and practice areas, providing plenty of variety and scope to make an impact.

This role will suit a commercially minded BD professional who enjoys operating at a strategic level but is equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in the delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development Strategy

• Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with organisational objectives.
• Identify opportunities for growth through market research, sector analysis and an understanding of client needs.
• Develop plans to penetrate new markets and expand existing client relationships.
• Coordinate marketing initiatives that support business development objectives.

• Identify opportunities for senior stakeholders to build relationships with prospective clients, referrers and key stakeholders.
• Support Partners in developing and maintaining strong, long-term client relationships.
• Use client listening and market insights to identify opportunities and improve client engagement.
• Contribute to account management and client development strategies.

• Lead and support high-quality pitches, tenders and proposals.
• Coach Partners and project teams through the pitch process.
• Develop compelling written and presentation materials that clearly articulate the organisation's value proposition.

• Work collaboratively with Marketing, Business Development and other internal teams to deliver integrated initiatives.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior members of the team.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of BD initiatives.

You will be an experienced Business Development professional with a strong understanding of the professional services environment and a genuine interest in helping senior stakeholders and teams grow their practices.
You will bring:

• 7+ years' experience in business development, marketing or a related professional services environment.
• At least 2 years' experience at Manager level.
• Strong strategic business development capability, with the ability to translate market and client insights into practical initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience across pitches, tenders and proposals, including the ability to coach Partners and project teams.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• Commercial acumen and an understanding of how BD activity contributes to revenue and growth.
• The ability to work autonomously while also being a collaborative team player.
• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the confidence to take ownership of initiatives.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
