About The RoleThis is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in strengthening and advancing the department's approach to workplace health, safety and wellbeing.
As the Senior Lead Safety & Wellbeing, you will drive the next phase of our Work Health and Safety (WHS) maturity journey, partnering with leaders across the department to embed contemporary safety practices, strengthen capability, support the effective management of physical and psychosocial risk, and foster a proactive culture where safety and wellbeing are integral to how we work.
You will lead the development and implementation of strategic safety and wellbeing initiatives, provide expert advice on WHS risk management and governance, and use data and insights to identify opportunities for continuous improvement in safety and wellbeing practices. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys building strong relationships, influencing positive change, and delivering practical solutions that support both people and organisational outcomes.
This temporary opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful and visible impact, shaping sustainable safety outcomes that will benefit the department well beyond the life of the role.
While responsibility for complex injury management and return to work matters forms part of the position, the primary focus is on driving organisational improvement, strengthening systems and processes, and elevating WHS performance across the department.

About YouYou are an experienced safety and wellbeing professional with a strong understanding of contemporary WHS practices, including physical and psychosocial risk management, injury management and return-to-work practices.You are passionate about building organisational capability, driving operational improvements, and creating safe, healthy and psychologically safe workplaces where people can perform at their best.You have a proven ability to influence leaders, build positive relationships, and provide trusted advice to stakeholders at all levels.You are comfortable working strategically and operationally, using data, insights and evidence-based approaches to identify improvement opportunities and deliver practical outcomes.
Essential requirementsTertiary qualifications in work, health and safety (minimum Cert IV in WHS), allied health, or risk and compliance, and/or demonstrated equivalent relevant professional experience.Return to Work Coordinator accreditation or equivalent and extensive knowledge of workers compensation legislation.
