The Role

We are seeking a Systems & Automation Engineer to help design and build internal tools, automated workflows and reporting systems across the business.

Working closely with our Distribution, Investment teams, you will identify manual or inefficient business processes and develop practical, scalable solutions using Python, SQL, data visualisation and other appropriate technologies.

The role sits at the intersection of software development, data engineering, reporting automation and business process improvement. You will work with internal datasets and business users to automate recurring processes, build internal tooling, improve reporting infrastructure and reduce manual operational work.

We actively encourage the practical use of modern AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, accelerate problem solving and support the development of internal systems and automations. You should be comfortable using AI tools as part of your day-to-day workflow while also being able to critically review, test and validate their output.

This position is ideally suited to someone with 2–5 years of experience who enjoys solving business problems through technology, is comfortable working across both technical systems and business-facing outputs, and wants increasing ownership over the solutions they build.

We are less concerned with your previous job title than your ability to understand a problem, break it down and develop a practical technical solution.

Responsibilities

Automation & Internal Tools

• Design, build and maintain automated workflows using Python, SQL and other appropriate technologies.

• Develop lightweight internal tools and applications that improve the efficiency of Distribution, Investment and other internal teams.

• Identify repetitive or manual business processes and translate them into scalable automated solutions.

• Improve and redesign existing workflows to increase reliability, consistency and maintainability.

• Use modern AI-assisted development tools to support coding, debugging, research and problem solving.

• Maintain and enhance existing internal automation and reporting systems.

Data Engineering & Transformation

• Query, extract and transform data from internal SQL databases.

• Build and maintain Python-based data processing, ETL and transformation workflows.

• Integrate data from multiple internal and external sources where required.

• Validate and reconcile datasets and investigate data inconsistencies.

• Improve data quality, structure and reliability across reporting processes.

• Support improvements to internal data architecture and storage practices.

• Write clear, maintainable and efficient SQL queries.

Reporting Systems & Visualisation

• Support the automated generation of investment reporting, factsheets, client presentations and marketing materials.

• Develop charts, tables and other presentation-ready outputs from internal datasets.

• Maintain and enhance Tableau reports, dashboards and supporting data infrastructure.

• Assist in automating PowerPoint and other recurring presentation workflows.

• Ensure reporting outputs are accurate, consistent, scalable and presentation-ready.

• Reduce reliance on manual spreadsheet and presentation processes where appropriate.

Collaboration & Process Improvement

• Work closely with Distribution, Investment and Systems Development teams to understand business requirements and develop appropriate solutions.

• Translate non-technical business requirements into practical technical implementations.

• Proactively identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency through automation and better tooling.

• Investigate problems independently and recommend solutions rather than simply executing predefined tasks.

• Communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Maintain documentation, version-controlled repositories and internal development standards.

• Take increasing ownership of systems and processes over time.

Required Skills & Experience

• 2–5 years of experience in software development, data engineering, data analytics, reporting automation or a related field.

• Strong SQL skills, including joins, transformations, data validation and query optimisation.

• Proficiency in Python for automation, ETL, data processing or application development.

• Demonstrated ability to break down ambiguous business problems and develop practical technical solutions.

• Experience working with structured datasets and relational databases.

• Strong Excel capability.

• Experience with Tableau or a similar data visualisation or reporting platform.

• Comfortable using modern AI-assisted development tools as part of your workflow, with the ability to critically review, test and refine generated outputs.

• Strong attention to detail, particularly where data accuracy and presentation quality are important.

• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with business users and technical teams.

• Comfortable working in a collaborative, office-based environment.

Nice to Have

• Experience within financial services, funds management or investment reporting.

• Exposure to Git/GitHub and version-controlled development workflows.

• Experience developing lightweight internal web applications or business tools.

• Experience automating PowerPoint, Excel or other recurring reporting outputs.

• Familiarity with APIs and integrating third-party or internal services.

• Experience with workflow orchestration or scheduled data pipelines.

• Familiarity with cloud-based data environments such as AWS.

• Exposure to fixed income, credit or financial market datasets.
