Join the Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD) Emergency Department Mental Health Team and become part of a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team providing specialist mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and compassionate care to consumers presenting to the Emergency Department.

About the Opportunity

You will work alongside Clinical Nurse Consultants, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Psychiatric Registrars, Emergency Department clinicians, PACER, Acute Care Teams, inpatient units, and community mental health services, you will play a critical role in ensuring timely, evidence-based care for people experiencing acute mental health crises.

This position plays a key role in supporting individuals experiencing acute mental health crises by providing expert assessment, clinical leadership, and collaborative care within the Emergency Department. In this role you will:

• Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, triage, risk assessments, and crisis interventions for consumers presenting to the Emergency Department.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including ED clinicians, Mental Health Services, and community providers, to deliver safe, coordinated, person-centred care.
• Provide specialist mental health consultation, clinical expertise, and support to colleagues while contributing to education and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation, manage complex and competing priorities, and support effective patient flow in a fast-paced 24/7 Emergency Department environment.

About You

We are looking for someone who has:

• Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse, with extensive post-registration mental health nursing experience and postgraduate qualifications in Mental Health Nursing (or currently working towards them).
• Proven expertise in acute mental health assessment, including triage, mental state examinations, risk assessment, and crisis intervention within a fast-paced clinical environment.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build therapeutic relationships and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders.
• Strong clinical judgement and the ability to work autonomously, confidently prioritising competing demands while delivering safe, consumer-centred care.
• A commitment to professional excellence, including ongoing learning, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and availability to work a 24/7 rotating roster.
