The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced engineering professional within MidCoast Council's Transport Assets section as Coordinator Coastal, Flooding and Drainage. This is a chance to influence how Council plans, manages and improves critical coastal, floodplain and stormwater drainage infrastructure across one of NSW's most liveable coastal regions.

You will work on complex and meaningful coastal, flooding and drainage challenges in a region where your expertise has a visible impact. In this role, you will lead a skilled coastal, flooding and drainage team, creating an environment where people are supported, developed and empowered to deliver high-quality outcomes. You will coach, mentor and guide team members through effective work planning, performance conversations and professional development opportunities, while helping shape and strengthen the team.

You will drive the delivery of efficient, responsive and high-quality coastal, flooding and drainage services that meet community needs, service levels, budgets and timeframes. Drawing on your specialist expertise in floodplain management, coastal zone management, hydrology, hydraulic analysis, modelling, design and drainage assessment, you will help solve complex local challenges and influence the way Council plans and delivers engineering services.

A key focus of the role will be taking ownership of Council's drainage asset management system and building a strong evidence base for future investment decisions. You will coordinate drainage asset inspection and assessment programs, prepare prioritised future works programs, asset condition reports and drainage asset valuation reports, and contribute to long-term capital works planning, maintenance strategies and budget forecasting for critical coastal, floodplain and drainage infrastructure.

You will also identify and help secure external funding and partnership opportunities and ensure services are delivered in line with relevant legislation, statutory requirements, engineering standards and Council policies. Through this work, you will play an active role in achieving Council's organisational outcomes and delivering the Projects and Engineering Operational Plan.

What you'll bring

You will be an experienced engineering professional with strong technical knowledge of coastal, flooding and stormwater drainage services and a demonstrated ability to coordinate staff, projects and competing priorities.

You will have the ability to provide clear and practical technical advice, develop effective asset management programs and build productive relationships with community members, internal stakeholders, government agencies and external partners.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $124,400 - $ 136,800 p.a. plus superannuation. (dependent on skills and experience)

3.5% Civil Liability Allowance

A vehicle arrangement will be made with the successful candidate for this role. Council will provide you with a leaseback vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use with no additional expenses in normal use.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
