Functions and Events Manager - Sharks Leagues Club

The Sharks Group is entering an exciting new chapter, with the highly anticipated opening of the new Sharks Leagues Club this Spring.

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded Functions & Events Manager to take ownership of the functions and events offering at Sharks Leagues Club.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and grow our functions business, creating memorable experiences across our dedicated function rooms, The Chairmans, and a range of private and semi-private spaces throughout the Club.

Reporting to the Group Food & Beverage Manager, you’ll lead the end-to-end functions experience, from generating new business and developing function packages through to planning, coordination and successful event delivery.

You’ll also lead our Functions & Events Coordinator and Functions & Events team, setting strong service standards and ensuring every event delivers a great Sharks experience.

About the role

No two weeks will look exactly the same. You’ll have the opportunity to work across corporate functions, conferences, celebrations, social events, member events, major sporting occasions, game days and internal Club activations.

A key part of the role will be building the functions business and identifying new opportunities to maximise the use of our spaces.

You will:

• Take ownership of the overall functions and events operation at Sharks Leagues Club.

• Manage the end-to-end function journey, from initial enquiry and site inspection through to quoting, booking, planning, delivery and follow-up.

• Proactively generate new function and event business and build relationships within the local community.

• Develop creative, competitive and commercially viable function packages.

• Work closely with our Catering Contractor on menus, packages and the delivery of food and beverage requirements.

• Partner with Marketing and Club Operations to plan and deliver internal events, activations and major sporting occasions.

• Work closely with the Cronulla Sharks Football Club to coordinate game day functions, corporate hospitality, sponsor and partner events and other Football Club requirements.

• Lead, develop and support the Functions & Events Coordinator and Functions & Events team.

• Establish and maintain strong function service standards, procedures and training.

• Monitor bookings, conversion, revenue, profitability and utilisation of our function spaces.

• Be hands-on and present for key functions, events and game days when required.

About you

You’ll be someone who enjoys both the commercial and operational sides of functions and events. You can build relationships and generate business, but you’re equally comfortable getting into the detail to make sure an event is executed successfully.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Previous experience in functions, events, hospitality or venue management.

• Experience managing functions or events from enquiry through to delivery.

• Strong sales and commercial capability, with an understanding of function pricing, costs and profitability.

• Experience developing function packages and identifying opportunities to grow revenue.

• Strong leadership and people management skills.

• Experience leading service teams and developing high service standards.

• Excellent organisation and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

• The ability to manage multiple events and competing priorities.

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and game days as required.
