How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Disability Support Worker with One Doorway, you will join a dedicated team of carers who provide person-centred support to people with disabilities in their own homes.

A day in the life as a Disability Support Worker with One Doorway may include:

• Delivering person-centred care and support based on individual needs and support plans.
• Supporting participants to meet their goals, particularly in alignment with their NDIS plan, with a focus on safety, dignity, and client goals.
• Responding to crises, including de-escalating behaviours of concern as listed in the Behaviour Support Plan 
• Assisting with the delivery of activities that build capacity and develop skills across physical, social, emotional, and intellectual domains

·         Foster a safe and supportive environment that promotes independence and autonomy.

• Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, families and other stakeholders. 

As a Support Worker, you will have experience within the disability sector, and as our participant has specific needs, you will also demonstrate the following:

• Experience supporting participants with high and complex needs, including complex behaviours, along with strong communication skills
• Previous experience in a similar role, particularly working with individuals who require Behavioural and Mental Health Support 
• Experience with de-escalating heightened behaviours
• A compassionate and empathetic approach, with a genuine desire to make a positive difference in people’s lives
• A patient, flexible, understanding, and supportive nature, with excellent listening skills and strong attention to detail
• The ability to take responsibility, use initiative, and work effectively as part of a team
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team

Desirable, however, not essential: 

• Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent. 
• Valid driver’s licence with access to a comprehensively insured vehicle.
