The team has extensive global experience supporting rapid deployment power generation projects, providing end-to-end services from installation and commissioning to operation and maintenance. UPSA also delivers protection studies, relay testing, and designs and builds control panels, generator synchronizing panels, automation systems, and remote monitoring solutions. The company works closely with partners to understand their operations, deliver cost-effective solutions, and support long-term, sustainable success.
Role Description The Commissioning Generator Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Melbourne, VIC. This position is responsible for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting generator sets and associated power generation equipment, including control panels, synchronizing systems, and protection relays. Day-to-day tasks include performing site inspections, executing installation and pre-commissioning checks, documenting test results, and ensuring systems operate safely and in accordance with technical specifications and industry standards. The role involves collaborating with engineers and project teams, supporting operation and maintenance activities, and providing technical support to clients during and after commissioning. The technician will also assist in identifying improvements to commissioning procedures, safety practices, and asset performance.
Qualifications
Strong technical skills in power generation systems, including generator sets, control panels, synchronizing equipment, and protection relays.Hands-on experience with installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of electrical and mechanical power generation assets.Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation, and to perform accurate testing and data recording.Knowledge of relevant electrical standards, safety regulations, and best practices for working in high-voltage and industrial environments.Effective problem-solving, fault-finding, and troubleshooting skills in complex power generation and control systems.Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with engineers, site personnel, and clients.Capacity to work on-site, including travel to customer locations when required, and to perform physical tasks associated with field work.Certificate or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnology, or a related trade qualification; relevant licenses and certifications are highly regarded.Experience in commissioning or maintaining generator systems in industrial, mining, utilities, or rapid deployment power generation environments is an advantage.Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with a proactive and “can-do” attitude.
