About the role
Gellibrand Support Services is an established not-for-profit organisation, supporting people living with disability across Melbourne’s western and northern suburbs. With an annual budget of $24 million, and a workforce of 200 paid staff and 20 dedicated volunteers, we provide a range of personalised services designed to achieve real outcomes for the people, families and communities we support.
Based in the Brimbank local government area of Victoria, Gellibrand is governed by a 6 - 9 member Board that meets monthly to shape the organisation’s strategic goals and contribute to its long-term success.
We are seeking to appoint three new volunteer Board Members, preferably with expertise in law, finance, marketing, stakeholder engagement or technology, to join our Board for a three-year term and help guide the future direction of Gellibrand Support Services. About the RoleAs a member of our Board, you will work collaboratively with fellow Board members and organisational leadership to provide effective governance and strategic oversight.
We would particularly like to hear from candidates with expertise in law - especially contract law - or experience within finance, marketing, stakeholder engagement or technology functions. However, we welcome applications from all candidates who can bring valuable professional or lived experience along with a genuine commitment to improving the lives of people with disability. Key responsibilities include:Preparing for and contributing constructively to Board discussions and decision-makingExercising sound judgement and acting in the best interests of Gellibrand and the people the organisation supportsProviding effective oversight of organisational performance, risk and governanceWorking collaboratively and respectfully with fellow Board members and senior leadershipWhere relevant, applying professional expertise to help the Board understand obligations, manage risks and identify opportunities About YouYou may be an experienced director, professional, community leader, or someone with expertise that would strengthen our Board. We are looking for someone who is:Committed to strong governance and informed decision-makingConfident in contributing an independent perspective while working collaboratively towards collective Board decisionsForward-thinking, proactive and able to help shape the Board’s strategic directionAble to communicate clearly and respectfully, with the ability to build positive, constructive relationships with fellow Board members and senior leadershipAble to commit up to 10 hours per month (combined online & in-person) Most importantly, you will share our commitment to a people-led culture of inclusion, empowerment, and dignity, and to supporting people with disability to live their lives on their terms. CommitmentTerm period: 3 yearsBoard meetings: Monthly, generally on the fourth Thursday of each monthTime: Evening, commencing at 7:00pmLocation: Primarily Gellibrand Support Services’ main office in Sunshine, VictoriaRemuneration: Expenses only. Volunteer positionCurrent board size: 6 - 9 membersSub-committee: Board members are expected to join a sub-committee.
