About The Opportunity

The City Open Spaces team manages the daily presentation and maintenance of Council’s open spaces, sportsgrounds, playgrounds, passive and public spaces, golf courses, botanical gardens and native vegetation areas within the Cumberland City Area, ensuring that our residents and visitors have access to quality and attractive open spaces of which they can be proud and enjoy.

In contributing to the overarching vision, the Team Leader – Recreational Assets will lead a team in undertaking a range of specialist horticultural management activities that will guide the maintenance of Council’s recreational assets, ensuring the parks are in excellent condition, safe and suitable for use by the community. This role will also assist in ensuring customer and community satisfaction with Council’s recreational assets operations are met.

The Successful Applicant Will Require

Relevant trade qualifications (e.g. Certificate III in Turf Management, Parks and Gardens, Horticulture with extensive experience in a related field)Current C class driver's licenseCurrent ChemCert (Chemical Handling) qualificationCurrent General Induction for Construction Work in NSW (White Card)Current HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitationCurrent HLATAID011 Provide First AidDemonstrated knowledge and understanding of park maintenance and parks infrastructure related issues, current trends, industry best-practice and new developments relating to maintenance services and parks operationsAbility to plan, coordinate resources and undertake maintenance activities relevant to the position including but not limited to mowing, edging, gardening, weeding and chemical sprayingAbility to identify, plan, coordinate resources and undertake improvement works throughout Council’s open spacesDemonstrated experience in operating parks maintenance related small plant and equipment, including small hand tools, and power toolsProven ability to effectively supervise and co-ordinate team members and external contractors in the delivery of maintenance and project worksDemonstrated ability to deal in a positive and courteous manner with the public, and council staff whilst providing leadership to othersSound verbal and written communication skills – ability to complete necessary paperwork and communicate effectively with team membersSound knowledge and practical application of WH&S principles and the Work Health and Safety legislationSound Computer Skills and aptitude to adapt and learn new electronic systems and operate a range of devices including ipads

About This Role

Permanent, full-time position70 hour fortnightAccess to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangementLocated at Council's Lidcombe Oval, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

Grade 8 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,431.67to $1,753.80 per week, plus 12% superannuationThe commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
