Head of Legal ANZ

As we continue to grow across Australia and New Zealand, we are seeking an experienced and commercially minded legal leader to join our business as Head of Legal - ANZ. This is a newly created opportunity with genuine scope to help shape the future of our Legal function and influence strategic business outcomes.

About the Role

Reporting to, and working closely with, the General Counsel - ANZ, you will lead the day-to-day operations of the Legal team while acting as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across the ANZ business. You'll provide practical, commercially focused legal guidance while helping the business navigate risk, compliance and governance requirements.

Leading a team of two Legal Counsels, you'll mentor and develop legal talent while driving a high-performing, customer-focused legal function.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational legal advice across the ANZ business.
• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements.
• Lead legal risk management, compliance and governance initiatives.
• Manage and advise on disputes, claims and regulatory matters.
• Support intellectual property protection and brand enforcement activities.
• Provide guidance on competition and consumer law, privacy, product safety and regulatory obligations.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to enable commercial decision-making.
• Lead legal education, training and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and develop the Legal Counsel team members.
• Collaborate with global legal colleagues and manage external legal providers where required.

About You

We're looking for an experienced legal professional who combines strong technical expertise with outstanding commercial judgement and leadership capability.

You will bring:

• Extensive experience within an in-house legal environment.
• Strong expertise in commercial contracting, competition and consumer law, and privacy law.
• Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring legal professionals.
• Experience partnering with senior executives and business leaders.
• The ability to balance legal risk with practical commercial outcomes.
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Exposure to consumer goods, retail, FMCG, manufacturing or other complex commercial environments will be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated understanding of product and marketing functions and legal requirements.
• Australian legal qualifications with a current practising certificate.
