Resource Recovery Environment and Safety Officer

About the role:

The position is responsible for the environmental, safety and governance systems and compliance associated with Council’s Resource Recovery operations, projects and strategic programs.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and maintain environmental, safety and governance systems to ensure compliance across Council’s Resource Recovery operations.
• Monitor and manage environmental compliance, including EPA licensing, regulatory requirements, environmental risk, auditing and incident response.
• Deliver environmental projects and programs, including environmental assessments, sustainability initiatives, training and continuous improvement.
• Manage environmental data, reporting, contractors and consultants, and contribute to Resource Recovery projects, grants and strategic initiatives.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Waste Management or a related discipline, or equivalent extensive industry experience.
• Demonstrated experience in environmental management within a waste, landfill or resource recovery environment, including experience with EPA regulatory requirements.
• Experience developing and implementing environmental and safety management systems, including risk assessments, procedures and SWMS.
• Sound knowledge of NSW environmental and WHS legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to resource recovery operations.
• Strong analytical, project management and reporting skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with operational teams, contractors, regulators and community stakeholders.
• A proactive approach, with the ability to work autonomously, solve complex problems and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• A current NSW Driver Licence.

We offer:

• A full-time, permanent position (35 hours per week).
• Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with appointment in the range of $1,679.75 to $1,946.24 per week (dependent upon skills and experience)
• 12% Superannuation

Location: This position is based at Council's Resource Recovery Centre in Myocum; however, Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
