Type: Full Time Paid Position
Location: Petersham, NSW
Remuneration: Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (Level 4) + full salary packaging options up to $15,900 per annum available
About Us:
Originally named The Wayside Foundation, The Ted Noffs Foundation was established in 1970 by the Australian humanitarian, Reverend Ted Noffs, who’s work championed social justice, mental health support, and innovative youth services. Today, the Foundation continues his legacy, delivering frontline services and community support across NSW, ACT & QLD. With over 200 staff and 350 volunteers, we remain deeply committed to helping young people affected by issues related to drugs, crime, and mental health.
About the Role:
Ted Noffs Foundation is seeking an experienced, hands-on and values-driven Area Manager to lead the performance, people and growth of a portfolio of Noffs Op Shops across Sydney.
This role will support the expansion of Noffs Shops and is responsible for overseeing retail operations across a portfolio of stores (both new and existing stores), while also leading volunteer recruitment, onboarding, engagement and retention to ensure each shop is well supported and connected to its local community.
The role is both operational and strategic. It requires strong leadership across multi-site retail performance, volunteer management, customer experience, merchandising, compliance and new shop establishment, while translating the Noffs mission and values into day-to-day practice across every location.
Noffs Shops play an important role in funding Ted Noffs Foundation services, so this position makes a direct contribution to the organisation’s impact. A sound understanding of, or willingness to build expertise in, community sector retail and volunteer-led operations will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities and duties:
Lead the day-to-day performance, operations and presentation of a portfolio of Noffs Op Shops across Sydney, ensuring each store meets operational, customer service and financial expectations.
Recruit volunteers for each store in your portfolio, including identifying volunteer needs, promoting roles, responding to enquiries, screening applicants and building sustainable local volunteer pipelines.
Induct, train, roster and support volunteers so they have clear role expectations, the tools they need to succeed, and a positive experience with Noffs from their first shift onward.
Develop strong volunteer cultures across stores through regular communication, recognition, coaching and retention practices that promote consistency, reliability and belonging.
Manage store rosters and volunteer coverage to ensure safe, efficient and customer-focused shop operations.
Implement and maintain systems, processes and controls across stores, including the consistent use of volunteer and retail management systems, operational procedures and reporting tools.
Monitor and improve store sales, donations, stock flow, productivity and profitability across the portfolio, responding proactively to opportunities and challenges in a competitive retail environment.
Oversee merchandising standards, pricing decisions and the quality and suitability of goods offered for sale, ensuring stores deliver value and reflect local community needs.
Work closely with the broader op shop team to coordinate donation flow, stock movement, pick-up and delivery of goods across stores and warehouse operations.
Build positive local relationships that strengthen the Noffs brand, attract volunteers and donors, and enhance each store’s connection to its surrounding community.
Support the establishment, transition or improvement of new and existing Noffs Shops as directed, including local workforce setup, volunteer activation and operational readiness.
Ensure all stores operate in line with Ted Noffs Foundation policies, Code of Conduct, workplace health and safety obligations, child safety requirements and relevant compliance standards.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement and culturally safe practice across the team, workplace and community.

Demonstrated experience managing teams and/or volunteers across retail, community, hospitality or service-based environments.
Demonstrated experience in volunteer recruitment, onboarding, support and retention, including the ability to build strong volunteer engagement at a local level.
