We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Payroll & HRIS Coordinator to join our People & Culture team in Bondi Junction.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone wanting to take a step into their career and develop practical experience across payroll, HRIS administration, reporting, compliance, and employee benefits.

You’ll play an important role in keeping our payroll and people systems accurate, compliant and running smoothly, while working closely with employees, managers, Finance and the broader People & Culture team.

About the role

This is a hands-on and varied role where you will develop a strong understanding of the employee lifecycle and the systems and processes that support it.

Your responsibilities will include:

Payroll Administration & Processing

• Support and progressively take ownership of end-to-end payroll processing within agreed timelines.
• Prepare and validate payroll calculations, including wages, salaries, allowances, deductions, leave and adjustments.
• Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee changes, tax, superannuation and leave balances.
• Coordinate pre- and post-payroll checks, processing and payment activities.
• Monitor and manage payroll queries through the payroll inbox.

HR Systems & HRIS

• Maintain accurate employee, position, organisational and payroll data within the HRIS.
• Administer employee changes, system access and payroll-related updates.
• Act as a first point of contact for HRIS queries, troubleshooting issues and escalating where required.
• Support system updates, testing, configuration changes and data validation.
• Support the workforce with training in the use of HR systems, ensuring employees and managers understand key processes and system functionality.

Reporting, Compliance & Reconciliations

• Assist with payroll reconciliations and end-of-cycle reporting.
• Prepare payroll, leave liability, headcount and workforce reports.
• Support superannuation submissions and reconciliations.
• Assist with payroll tax, Single Touch Payroll, workers compensation and other statutory reporting.
• Support payroll audits, compliance reviews and BOOT assessments.

Process Improvement & Systems Development

• Maintain payroll and HRIS procedures, checklists, calendars and process guides.
• Monitor payroll and HRIS metrics and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with automation, system enhancements, integrations and reporting improvements.
• Investigate issues, identify root causes and recommend practical solutions.
• Contribute to projects that improve the employee and manager experience.

Benefits Administration

• Maintain employee benefit information across payroll and HR systems.
• Support salary packaging, allowances, deductions, insurance and superannuation administration.
• Assist with benefit reconciliations and employee queries.

About you

You may be a recent graduate or have 1–2 years’ experience in payroll, HR administration, HRIS, finance or a similar operational role.

You will ideally bring:

• A tertiary qualification in HR, Business, or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to your work.
• An interest in payroll, HR systems, data and People & Culture.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Confidence working with systems and learning new technology.
• Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• A proactive approach to identifying and solving problems.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• The ability to handle confidential employee and payroll information with discretion.

Experience with payroll software, HRIS platforms, Employment Hero or similar systems will be highly regarded, but a willingness to learn is just as important.
