About the role
Are you passionate about strengthening the social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal people and helping people stay connected to culture, family and community?
Condobolin Aboriginal Health Service (CAHS) is looking for a full-time Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Worker to join our growing team.
This is more than a support role. It is an opportunity to build genuine relationships, strengthen connection to culture and community, and walk alongside Aboriginal people and families to achieve better social and emotional wellbeing outcomes.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
For us, the right fit matters. We want someone who genuinely cares about community, understands the importance of culture to health and wellbeing, and wants to contribute to a strong, culturally safe and supportive team.
As a SEWB Worker, you will provide culturally safe, strengths-based support to Aboriginal individuals and families.
The Aboriginal concept of social and emotional wellbeing recognises that wellbeing is connected to body, mind and emotions, family and kinship, community, culture and Country. These connections will be central to how you engage with and support community.
No two days will necessarily look the same. You may be supporting someone one-on-one, helping a client navigate services, participating in a cultural or community activity, delivering a wellbeing program or working alongside the broader CAHS team to respond to community needs.
Your work will include:
Building trusted and culturally safe relationships with Aboriginal clients, families and community.
Supporting people to strengthen their connection to culture, family, community and Country.
Providing strengths-based support, advocacy and case management.
Supporting clients to identify their strengths, needs and goals.
Connecting people with health, housing, financial, mental health, AOD, family and other services.
Contributing to cultural, SEWB and community programs, groups, outreach and events.
Working collaboratively with the SEWB team, CAHS clinical services and external organisations.
Maintaining appropriate client records, case notes and program documentation.
Listening to community and contributing ideas about how CAHS can continually improve our services.
Skills and experience matter, but who you are, how you connect with people and what you bring to our team and community matter just as much.
You'll be a great fit for CAHS if you:
Are genuinely motivated by making a difference for Aboriginal people, families and community.
Understand and value the importance of culture, identity, kinship and community to Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing.
Can build genuine, respectful relationships with community.
Treat people with kindness, dignity and respect.
Are a team player who shares information, supports others and contributes to a positive workplace.
Can put the needs of clients and community ahead of ego.
Take responsibility for your work and follow through on commitments.
Are willing to learn, receive feedback and continue developing your skills.
Bring ideas and look for ways we can do things better.
Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Are resilient, practical and able to remain calm when situations are challenging.
Understand that cultural safety is everyone's responsibility.
Ideally, you will have:
Experience in Aboriginal community services, social and emotional wellbeing, community services, mental health, AOD, family support, youth work or a related area.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
An understanding of Aboriginal culture, community and the social and historical factors influencing Aboriginal health and wellbeing.
The ability to work respectfully with people experiencing complex circumstances.
Sound organisational and record-keeping skills.
A relevant qualification in community services, mental health, Aboriginal health, counselling or a related discipline or a willingness to undertake further training.
A current driver's licence.
The ability to obtain the required Working with Children Check and National Police Check.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
We recognise the value that lived experience, cultural knowledge, community connection and Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing bring to our SEWB team and to the people we support.
If you have strong connections with community and culture but don't tick every box in the selection criteria, we still want to hear from you.
CAHS is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation with strong connections to the Condobolin Aboriginal community.
We believe culture is a source of strength, healing, identity and belonging, and we want our services and workplaces to be culturally safe, welcoming and grounded in community.
You'll have the opportunity to:
Make a real difference – do work that directly strengthens Aboriginal people, families and community.
Stay connected to culture and community – work in an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation where culture and community are central to what we do.
Build your career with us – access training and development while helping shape growing SEWB services.
Discover life in Condobolin – enjoy an affordable and welcoming country community, a relaxed lifestyle and the opportunity to become part of a town where people and connections matter.
Work across individual support, cultural activities, programs and community events.
Access attractive not-for-profit salary packaging benefits.
We're not looking for someone who simply wants to fill a position.
We're looking for someone who wants to connect with community, strengthen culture, turn up for their team and make a difference.
If you're passionate about Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing and want your work to strengthen culture, connection and community, we'd love to hear from you.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
Please submit your resume and a short cover letter telling us about yourself, your experience and, importantly, why you would be a great fit for CAHS and the Condobolin community.
