Ocean Infinity is seeking expressions of interest for Graduate Hydrographic Surveyors to join our APAC Solutions business unit in Hobart, Australia. This graduate-level role supports the planning, execution and delivery of large-scale hydrographic survey projects, predominantly across Australia and New Zealand, with opportunities to gain experience on Ocean Infinity projects worldwide.

As a Graduate Hydrographic Surveyor, you will become immersed in Ocean Infinity’s survey team and develop practical competence across the survey lifecycle. You will work under the direction of experienced Hydrographic Surveyors, Surveyors in Charge and project leaders, contributing to safe operations, reliable data acquisition, project records, data checks, processing support and preparation of client deliverables.

The role is suited to a curious, safety-focused and detail-oriented graduate who is excited to help push the boundaries of offshore technology, learn from experienced survey professionals and build capability through innovation, hands-on experience and continuous improvement.

What will you do:

• Become immersed within Ocean Infinity’s team of surveyors to support projects and gain practical experience within the hydrographic profession
• Support the configuration, calibration, deployment and set-to-work of survey equipment, including MBES, GNSS, tide gauges, current meters, sound velocity sensors, sound velocity profilers and related survey systems
• Be involved in offshore data acquisition activities, including seafloor mapping, coastline work, sediment sampling, and oceanographic collection
• Support online acquisition operations in the field or remote operations centre, including monitoring survey progress, coverage, sensor status, sound velocity routines and data completeness
• Assist with data compilation, processing, quality checking and reporting across bathymetric, navigation, oceanographic, seabed interpretation and related survey datasets as directed
• Prepare and maintain accurate survey records, field notes, equipment logs, shift handovers, technical inputs and supporting information for reports and deliverables
• Support the integration of survey datasets into Geographic Information Systems for intermediate and final products, including plans, maps, charts, imagery and data packages
• Participate in field survey tasks such as tide equipment deployment and recovery, GNSS observations, levelling, total station work, environmental observations and ancillary data collection under supervision
• Adhere to Ocean Infinity policies, procedures and management system requirements, including HSEQ, quality, information security, hazard reporting, incident reporting and stop-work expectations
• Contribute to continuous improvement by asking questions, identifying opportunities to improve workflows, and applying feedback from supervisors and project teams
• Build experience toward industry progression, including training, competency logbooks and future professional certification pathways such as CPHS Level 2
• Work from the Hobart office when not engaged on projects, where required

Who you are:

• You hold, or are close to completing, a hydrographic survey, surveying, geomatics, geospatial science, marine science or similar degree or qualification.
• You have a genuine interest in hydrography, seafloor mapping, marine operations, autonomous and remote operations, and the use of technology to improve the way operations are performed at sea
• You have strong attention to detail and understand the importance of accurate equipment configuration, field records, survey logs, data quality checks and clear handovers
• You are thoughtful, thorough, conscientious and reliable, with the ability to manage time and priorities in a fast-paced project environment while asking questions, seeking support early and learning from feedback
• You communicate clearly and respectfully with senior survey personnel, data processing teams, vessel crew, contractors and project stakeholders, and work well in a team or independently when directed while staying within your assigned authority and current level of competence
• You are safety-focused, prepared to report hazards or concerns, and understand that people, vessel safety and environmental protection take priority over production or data objectives
• You have work visa entitlements to work in Australia

Development and progression

This graduate role is designed to build the foundational technical, operational and safety competence required for progression toward the Hydrographic Surveyor role. You will work under supervision while gaining exposure to survey planning, equipment setup, field acquisition, remote operations, data checks, processing support, reporting, GIS deliverables, safety management and project handovers.

Progression will be supported through supervised project experience, formal training, competency logbooks, supervisor feedback and demonstrated ability to work safely, follow procedures, maintain data quality, recognise and escalate issues, and contribute reliably to project outcomes.

Desirable

• Exposure to hydrographic, geospatial, marine, offshore, coastal or field survey environments
• Introductory experience with bathymetric, navigation, oceanographic, GIS, CAD or data processing workflows
• Experience with GNSS, total stations, levelling, tide gauges, sound velocity equipment, MBES or other survey sensors through study, fieldwork or industry placement
• Marine or offshore safety training such as sea survival, first aid, HUET, BOSIET, offshore medical certification or equivalent
