Role:Reporting to the Chemistry Inorganics Team Leader, the incumbent is responsible for performing routine food testing, conducting a broad range of enzymatic and instrumental tests including testing the physical properties of samples. Tasks are undertaken using manual, semi-automated, and fully automated techniques. Where testing is automated, analysts are responsible for analysing data and reporting results.

• Apply the laboratory quality management system and participate in continuous improvement processes.
• Use laboratory application and information management software effectively.
• Perform troubleshooting of analytical methods and equipment.

Teamwork:

• Conduct a range of routine analytical tests.
• Organise and maintain work areas to ensure efficiency and compliance.

Technical:

• Process, interpret, and report analytical data accurately.
• Define and resolve problems of limited complexity, where information may be less obvious but can be determined through direct reasoning.
• Conduct various tests on physical properties of samples.
• Conduct various enzymatic tests.
• Perform tests using wet chemistry techniques.
• Preparation of samples for instrumental tests.
• Preparation and routine testing skills at this level may include:❖ Filtration, digestion, and extraction techniques;❖ Preparation of standard solutions;❖ Calibration of instruments and equipment; and❖ Operation of analytical instruments.
• Ability to operate and perform testing using the following instruments:❖ Spectrometer (Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/VIS);❖ Plate reader (ELISA);❖ Auto-titrator;❖ Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES and MS); and❖ Microwave Digestion Unit.

• Tertiary qualification in Scientific discipline (essential).
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory role (Preferred).
