About the role
Ocean Shores Country Club is seeking an accomplished turf-management professional to lead the presentation, maintenance and continued improvement of its golf course, bowling greens and associated grounds.
Located in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, Ocean Shores Country Club features an established 18-hole championship golf course designed by Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge. The Club also provides lawn bowls, hospitality and social facilities for its members and the wider community.
This senior leadership position presents an excellent opportunity to guide an experienced team, maintain high presentation standards and contribute meaningfully to the future direction of the Club’s sporting assets.
THE ROLE
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Course Superintendent will lead a course-maintenance team comprising:
• Assistant Course Superintendent/2IC
• Trade-qualified turf employees
• Course Mechanic
• Apprentice
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Planning, maintaining and presenting the golf course, bowling greens, surrounds and associated Club grounds
• Leading, developing and managing the course-maintenance team
• Preparing and managing operating budgets, capital expenditure plans and machinery-replacement programs
• Developing annual maintenance programs and longer-term improvement priorities
• Managing irrigation infrastructure, water resources, the workshop, machinery fleet, contractors and departmental assets
• Overseeing turf health, chemical programs and environmentally responsible maintenance practices
• Maintaining appropriate workplace health and safety, regulatory compliance and record-keeping standards
• Planning and delivering course improvements and capital projects
• Providing clear reports and professional advice to the General Manager, Board and relevant Club committees
• Communicating effectively with members about course conditions, maintenance programs and significant works
ABOUT YOU
Applications are welcomed from experienced Course Superintendents and accomplished Assistant Superintendents who can demonstrate their readiness to progress into a senior leadership role.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
• A recognised qualification in sports turf management, horticulture or a related discipline
• Strong technical knowledge of golf-course maintenance, preferably involving warm-season turf
• Proven ability to lead, organise and develop a multidisciplinary team
• Sound financial-management, budgeting and asset-planning capabilities
• Experience managing irrigation systems, machinery fleets, contractors and capital projects
• Thorough knowledge of workplace safety, chemical handling and environmental compliance
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• The ability to balance presentation standards, agronomic requirements, member expectations and available resources
• A practical, accountable and collaborative leadership style
Experience maintaining bowling greens will be highly regarded but is not essential.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Club has completed a significant irrigation-system upgrade and continues to pursue a planned program of course improvement, infrastructure renewal and asset management.
The incoming Superintendent will have the opportunity to build on this work and help shape the next phase of the course’s development.
The employment package includes:
• Base salary of $115,000–$125,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience
• Superannuation
• Fully maintained Club vehicle with fuel card
• Club-provided mobile phone
• Five weeks’ annual leave
• Full Golf and Bowls membership
• Professional-development support
This is an excellent opportunity for an established Superintendent or an exceptional Assistant Superintendent ready to take the next step into senior management.
