About Us
Tasmanian Irrigation is a State-owned Company that develops, owns and operates irrigation schemes in Tasmania, in accordance with sound commercial practice. Our mission is to deliver water where and when it’s needed to support sustainable agricultural growth in Tasmania.
We own and operate 19 irrigation schemes across the state, and we have $1.3 billion of new irrigation projects in development. We deliver water to our customers at the lowest sustainable price, while responsibly and sustainably managing our water resources, scheme assets and the environment.
Tasmanian Irrigation has the capacity to deliver 156,000 megalitres of high surety water each year, irrigating more than 133,000 hectares of land. For every 1,000 megalitres of water delivered, there is up to $3 million in on-farm investment, up to $7 million in annual economic uplift, and up to 30 direct and indirect jobs created.
All schemes developed and operated by Tasmanian Irrigation are economically viable, environmentally sustainable, have strong community endorsement, are designed to last at least 100 years and deliver water at an average reliability of more than 95 per cent per annum.
About The Role
Reporting to the Manager Engineering & Asset Intelligence, you will:
Provide engineering support to operational water delivery systemsDiagnose and resolve asset performance and reliability issuesAnalyse SCADA data and system behaviour to optimise performanceApply hydraulic analysis and engineering judgement to real-time decisionsSupport incident response, investigations and system improvementsDeliver small to medium engineering projects end-to-endContribute to asset management strategies and continuous improvement initiatives
What You’ll Need To Succeed
Key to this role will be an individual’s ability to:
Degree-qualified engineer (or equivalent pathway to Engineers Australia)Experience in water infrastructure, utilities or similar systemsStrong understanding of hydraulics and system behaviourDemonstrated experience working with or interpreting SCADA systemsAbility to troubleshoot complex operational issuesStrong stakeholder engagement and communication skillsProject delivery experience in a live operating environment
To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate experience in a similar engineering position, ideally within water infrastructure operations, including irrigation schemes, wastewater or sewerage networks, or other large-scale industrial environments.

In this role, you will work closely with Operations, Asset Intelligence and broader technical teams to support the safe, reliable and efficient delivery of water infrastructure services, contributing to system optimisation, operational problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
