Grosvenor Mine – an underground steelmaking coal mine produced its first longwall coal in May 2016 and is located in Moranbah, about 190 km south-west of Mackay.
We are building the team to deliver the next chapter of Grosvenor Mine. With a planned return to longwall production by Q4 2027, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to a major mine restart and help shape the future of underground mining.
Working alongside experienced professionals, you will play a role in implementing leading-edge technology, automation, monitoring systems and operational improvements that will define how the mine operates for years to come.
Job Description
Grosvenor Mine
Grosvenor Mine has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Moranbah. This is your opportunity to join a team of passionate and supportive industry leading experts where you can drive your future career.
You will provide strategic advice to the Technical Services, Operations and Compliance departments on geotechnical issues. A high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills will be instrumental in your success in this role.
Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, this key role will see you:
Maintain geotechnical oversight of underground operations and audit compliance with corporate standards and approved support designs.Design ground support and monitoring systems to support safe and productive mine operations.Conduct regular underground inspections to audit installed strata support and strata conditions to confirm the effectiveness in accordance with the approved support designs.Provide strategic advice to the Technical Services and Mining Operations departments on how to maximise the value of the operation.Advise management and operational staff on geotechnical issues.Manage the Strata Defect System and ensure compliance with the Geotechnical Operational Management System.Advise and assist engineers with recommendations on geotechnical and hydro-geological issues regarding mine design, planning and operations.Understand and comply with all legislative and company safety, health, environment, cost and production objectives, guidelines, procedures, and requirements relevant to the professional management of ground conditions.Provide mentoring and training to personnel with respect to strata support systems.
Qualifications
Tertiary degree in Geotechnical Engineering or similar disciplineProven underground coal experience within a Geotechnical Engineering roleExperience with computer aided mine design programs, geotechnical software, and other business softwareRegistered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) would be highly advantageous or willingness to obtain recognitionAbility to understand functionality of business systems and provide relevant data for business purposes
