About the role
Skilled motor winders are one of the hardest trades to find in Australia. If you've got hands-on experience rewinding AC and DC motors, this is a rare opportunity to build a long-term career with a well-established industrial electrical business.
Our client is a progressive industrial electrical company specialising in the workshop-based repair, assembly, testing and overhaul of electrical rotating equipment, servicing a broad range of industries across the Hunter region.
We're looking for an experienced Electric Motor Winder to join the team, working on random-wound AC and DC motors ranging from 0.75kW (1HP) up to 1,000HP. You'll report directly to the Workshop Manager, and once you're up to speed, you'll be trusted to manage your own workload — full training is provided on the workshop's test equipment.
Stable, long-term full-time role with a respected industrial electrical business
Competitive remuneration based on experience
Modern, well-equipped workshop
Visa sponsorship available for the right candidate (Subclass 482), with initial relocation support
Ongoing training and development
Genuine autonomy once trained — we don't micromanage
A strong team culture built on safety and quality
You'll be responsible for the full lifecycle of motor rewinds and repairs:
Rewinding:
Low voltage AC motors
DC motors
Alternators
Repair & Diagnostics:
Disassembly and assembly of electric motors and rotating equipment
Fault-finding, diagnostics and assessment of AC/DC motor condition
Stripping and accurately recording winding data
Determining rewind specifications from winding data
Static electrical testing, repairs and component replacement
Final reassembly and testing
Completion of service reports and documentation
Hands-on experience in AC and/or DC motor winding
Experience in electrical fitting and motor repair
Ability to accurately record and interpret winding data
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
Ability to work to precise tolerances and specifications
High attention to detail and pride in your workmanship
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Good written and spoken English
Strong commitment to workplace health and safety
Certificate III or higher in Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnology, Electrical Fitting, motor winding/rewinding, or a related discipline — international equivalents welcome
Where formal qualifications aren't directly recognised in Australia, significant hands-on experience (5+ years) in motor winding/rewinding will be considered
Demonstrated experience working on AC and DC motors, alternators and rotating electrical equipment
Current driver's licence (preferred)
This is a rare chance to join a business that genuinely values this trade. If you've got the skills, we want to hear from you.
