About the role
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to support a major Australian Government environment in Canberra.
This role will suit a hands-on network engineer with strong experience across enterprise networking, troubleshooting, network optimisation and hybrid cloud connectivity. You will work with internal technical teams, vendors and telecommunications providers to design, implement, maintain and improve highly available network services.
An active NV1 security clearance is mandatory prior to commencement.
Key responsibilitiesDesign, implement, configure and support enterprise network infrastructure.
Monitor network performance, capacity and availability and identify opportunities for improvement.
Troubleshoot complex network issues and support the resolution of network incidents and emergencies.
Support network integration across multiple providers as the organisation continues its transition towards hybrid cloud.
Configure, test, maintain and administer new and upgraded networking infrastructure.
Maintain Layer 2 networking including VLANs, trunks and Spanning Tree.
Support modern cloud networking technologies and hybrid network architectures.
Ensure networking devices and associated systems meet required cyber security patching and hardening standards.
Maintain network documentation, procedures, configurations, inventory and fault records.
Work closely with vendors, telecommunications providers and internal technical teams.
Communicate technical issues, recommendations and solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Contribute to network architecture, standards, technology roadmaps and future infrastructure planning.
Assist and mentor less experienced team members where required.
To be successful in this role, you should have demonstrated experience with:
Enterprise network design, implementation, administration and operational support.
Network monitoring, performance optimisation and capacity management.
Troubleshooting complex network problems and outages.
Layer 2 networking including VLANs, trunks and Spanning Tree.
Modern cloud and hybrid-cloud networking technologies.
Working with geographically distributed environments.
Managing relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors and network service providers.
Assessing technical risks, establishing priorities and delivering outcomes in business-critical environments.
Explaining complex technical concepts and recommendations to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience in one or more of the following will be highly regarded:
Firewall configuration and administration.
BGP and OSPF dynamic routing.
DNS and DHCP infrastructure.
DWDM optical networking.
Troubleshooting Layer 4–7 application performance issues.
Network and infrastructure architecture.
Developing infrastructure standards, policies, strategies and roadmaps.
Server and network integration design.
A relevant bachelor's degree or higher qualification is desirable. Significant relevant industry experience and/or recognised vendor certifications may substitute for formal qualifications.
Security clearanceApplicants must hold an active Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) security clearance before commencing the engagement.
