Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District, the Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land – the Gadigal people.

The Art Gallery attracts around 2.6 million visitors annually and runs Australia’s largest education program with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year.

With our expanded campus the Art Gallery has a new state-of-the-art building located next to our existing and much-loved building. Providing us with close to double the exhibition space, the expanded Art Gallery enables us to share more art with more people and provide more family, learning and educational programming for all our audiences.

About the Role 
Work in an area of curatorial specialisation and research (Contemporary International Art).  Curate collection displays and loan-based exhibitions. Work collaboratively with colleagues on related programs. Write and communicate clearly in a range of settings, including Art Gallery publications.

What Technical/Soft Skills you require

1. Tertiary degree, post graduate degree or post graduate diploma in art history or equivalent and knowledge of the curatorial specialisation area, coupled with considerable curatorial experience or equivalent professional training in the arts sector, art gallery or art museum sector.  
2. Demonstrated experience managing and curating an art collection and/or exhibitions programme, including publishing in the area of specialisation, and working collaboratively with colleagues across departments and in response to a range of audiences. 
3. Proven demonstrated experience in undertaking research to an academic standard, the ability to use Vernon CMS and/or other relational databases, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to undertake a wide range of curatorial and cross-disciplinary programs. 

Targeted Questions

1. Provide an example of when you have worked in a collaborative environment on a complex exhibition or artistic project with multiple deadlines. Please provide details of how you managed your part of the workload to ensure deadlines were met. (maximum of 400 words) 
2. Discuss a recent exhibition, ideally of contemporary international art, that you have curated and describe how you maintained the focus and selection of artists and works. Provide details on how you worked with artists and or colleagues on delivering the projects objectives. (maximum of 400 words)
