Manufacturing Machine Operator – Timber

About the role

Austral Plywoods Pty Ltd is seeking a Manufacturing Machine Operator to join our veneer production team at our Tennyson facility. This is a full-time position based in Tennyson QLD 4105. In this role, you will operate and maintain specialised timber processing machinery, ensuring consistent production quality and meeting production targets. You will be instrumental in supporting our manufacturing operations and contributing to the delivery of high-quality veneer for plywood production.

Key responsibilities

• Operating timber processing machinery safely and efficiently, following standard operating procedures and manufacturing guidelines. The equipment includes a veneer lathe/clipper/stacking line, log de-barker, Volvo front-end loader and 2.5T forklift.

• Monitoring machine performance and product quality throughout production runs

• Performing routine maintenance tasks and conducting daily equipment checks to ensure machinery remains in optimal working condition

• Identifying and reporting equipment faults or maintenance issues to supervisors or maintenance teams promptly

• Adhering to all workplace health and safety requirements, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Recording production data, output metrics and any incidents or anomalies during shifts

• Collaborating with team members to maintain a safe and productive work environment

• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for efficiency gains

What we're looking for

• Proven experience operating manufacturing machinery, preferably in timber processing or similar production environments

• Current Queensland Forklift License - LF High Risk Work

• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control standards

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, production schedules and safety documentation

• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality output

• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting

• Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

• Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices

• Physical capability to perform duties that may involve standing for extended periods and lifting materials

• Front end loader experience is advantageous but not essential as on-job training will be provided.
