The Service – Entrypoint

Centrecare operates a specialist Homeless Assessment and Referral Service assisting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to access accommodation and support options. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the expansion of the homelessness services.

The Role

As a Tenancy Support Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals and families to access and maintain secure housing. Working within Centrecare's guidelines and quality assurance requirements, you will advocate on behalf of clients, liaise with various agencies, and assist clients in navigating the complexities of the private rental market. Your role will involve providing short-term assistance, including mentoring, referrals, advocacy, and skill development, to help clients achieve acceptance for private rental properties.

Key responsibilities:

• Advocate on behalf of clients with private real estate agencies, private landlords, emergency relief agencies, Centrelink, and other tenancy-related support agencies.
• Assist clients to sustain their current tenancy or find alternative stable, long-term rental accommodation within a four to six-week service period. Provide support with property condition reports, transport, and other necessities.
• Conduct thorough assessments to determine clients' eligibility for tenancy support services.
• Refer and oversee the transition to support worker services for ongoing support and to agencies for employment and education assistance.
• Work collaboratively within a holistic framework to identify clients' current housing and support needs, implement agreed-upon actions and referrals, and evaluate outcomes.
• Maintain regular contact with clients, liaise with property managers in the private sector to source suitable properties for long-term housing, and establish relevant networks with the community and other service providers.

Selection Criteria

• Minimum Diploma qualification in Real Estate, Community Services, or related field
• Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of homelessness and housing insecurity on individuals, families and children.
• Knowledge of residential tenancy issues, housing pathways and strategies that support tenancy sustainment.
• Understanding and application of strengths-based approaches to service delivery.
• Experience supporting individuals and families experiencing complex needs and barriers to housing stability.
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients and a broad range of stakeholders, including private real estate agents, government agencies, and people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds
• Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate client records, collect service data and prepare reports using a range of software systems.
• Current National Police Clearance (issued within the previous 12 months).
• Current Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain one.
• Current WA Driver's Licence.
• Availability to work a shared roster across six days of service delivery, including occasional Saturdays.
