Full-Time Cook

$81,000 per annum plus superannuation

We are an established and busy Japanese restaurant located on Clarence st Wynyard, offering high-quality Japanese cuisine in a professional and fast-paced environment.

We are currently seeking an experienced and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menus and presentation standards

• Preparing ingredients, including meat, seafood, vegetables, sauces, stocks and garnishes

• Operating grills, fryers, stovetops, ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment

• Monitoring the quality of ingredients and finished dishes

• Ensuring consistent portion sizes, flavour and presentation

• Assisting with menu preparation and the development of new dishes when required

• Managing food preparation and service during busy periods

• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering and inventory control

• Minimising food waste and following appropriate food-storage procedures

• Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen

• Following food safety, workplace health and safety, and sanitation requirements

• Working collaboratively with chefs, kitchen staff and front-of-house team members

• Assisting with the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff where required

Skills and experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should have:

• A relevant commercial cookery qualification,or at least three years of relevant commercial cooking experience

• Experience working in a busy commercial restaurant kitchen

• Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and food safety requirements

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent quality

• Good organisational and time-management skills

• The ability to work effectively as part of a team

• The ability to work under pressure during busy service periods

• Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays

Experience preparing Japanese cuisine will be highly regarded but is not essential.
